Senior Editor, Fundraising Content (contract)

Toronto, ON, Canada

Job Description

Summary
Organization:
Plan International Canada
Location:
Toronto (Hybrid)
Status:
Full time, Contract (February 9 to June 5)
The Position
If you believe great fundraising starts with great stories - and you know how to turn a spark of interest into sustained support - let's talk. We're seeking a seasoned fundraising/content editor to shape strategy and produce multiplatform donor marketing copy that inspires action: appeals, donor journeys, retention communications, emails, and impact updates. Your goal is to write copy that turns interest into giving and giving into loyalty.
What success looks like?

  • Write and optimize appeals (onetime, monthly, upgrade/reactivation), welcome/onboarding sequences, and stewardship touchpoints using testing insights and segmentation.
  • Translate program impact into clear, donor ready messages with cultural sensitivity and program integrity; ensure stories reflect real outcomes responsibly.
  • Let data sharpen the story - monitor performance, learn what resonates, and iterate to lift opens, clicks, response rates, and donation revenues.
  • Find the stories only we can tell - spot high potential narratives across the organization and package them into donor centric content that drives action.
As our ideal candidate you will have:
  • You're a creative original - you're not interested in doing the same old, same old. You see every donor touchpoint as a chance to surprise, delight, and move people to action.
  • You bring 8+ years of experience in fundraising communications, content strategy, marketing, journalism, or publishing, with a portfolio packed with directresponse donor copy (appeals, journeys, landing pages).
  • You know how to translate complex program work into clear, compelling donor messages - and you're always looking for new strategic angles, fresh formats, and unexpected ways to connect.
  • You're data literate and experiment minded - metrics are your creative playground, helping you sharpen subject lines, CTAs, offer framing, and cadence.
  • You're committed to ethical, inclusive storytelling and antiracist communication principles.
  • You're motivated by social justice, children's rights, and equality for girls - and you're energized by the voice of a brand built by determined optimists.
How to Apply:
To express interest in this exciting opportunity, submit your resume and cover letter electronically by Monday, February 2, 2026, to nflanagan@plancanada.ca
Please send a resume, a brief note on your donor marketing approach, and 3-5 samples of nonprofit donor writing (e.g., appeals, stewardship emails, donor journeys, landing pages, social ads). If portfolio pieces are confidential, provide redacted samples or campaign summaries with performance highlights.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a brief interview prior to final selection.
Plan International Canada reserves the right not to select any proposal or to negotiate aspects of the proposal prior to contracting.
The salary range for this position is anticipated to be between $80 and $90 per hour. We comprehensively evaluate a variety of factors to determine fair compensation, including experience, specific job-related skills, and relevant educational or professional training. Additionally, we ensure that compensation is equitable across our team and aligns with current market trends.
