JOB SUMMARY
The Network Engineering and Operations Branch is responsible for network engineering and operational support and maintenance of the City of Ottawa\xe2\x80\x99s network infrastructure and related networking solutions, which are key enablers of the delivery of all IT services to the corporation and residents, including strategic planning for complex networking engineering technologies and projects. You are responsible to manage a portfolio of databases, and contribute to the database and extract, transformation and load (ETL) infrastructures and architectures. You also lead assigned database and/or ETL projects, and serve as the unit/branch representative on inter-branch, departmental, corporate and client projects.
This position is for a Senior Database Administrator with strong experience supporting Oracle and or Microsoft SQL Server. Experience supporting Microsoft Azure databases will be considered an asset.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year university degree or community college diploma in Computer Science or a related field Minimum of 5 years of information technology experience and a minimum of 3 years focusing on database and/or ETL administration and development Experience using IBM Infosphere DataStage is desirable
KNOWLEDGE
Extensive knowledge of databases
Concepts, tools and techniques used in managing Oracle and or SQL Server database platforms and Unix (ie Solaris), Linux or Windows platforms
Database and/or ETL performance tuning practices
Data modelling techniques and practices
Methodologies and techniques used in developing databases (i.e. PL/SQL, T-SQL)
LAN, WAN concepts and TCP/IP protocol as applicable to database management
Web based and/or client server application design concepts
Data Warehousing concepts
Methodologies and tools used in managing and developing enterprise ETL solutions
IT security best practices and standards relating to application development and/or integration
Applicable legislation (e.g. the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act), and Payment Card Industry Standards
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
