About this opportunity:

Reporting to Manager, Market Analytics, the successful candidate will serve as the subject matter expert in the area of data science. Main responsibilities include maintaining existing databases, building new dashboards, and leading data science projects that leverage data transformation.

This position collaborates with the Market Analytics team members that covers various commodities: crude oil, refined products, natural gas, and NGLs. Other crucial team members who will partner with are Trading, Fundamentals, IT and Strategy teams on supporting commercial decisions with data driven analytical insights.

This position is located in Calgary, Alberta

Responsibilities:

Build, lead and analyze automated data scrapes that support data collection, integration and visualization, dashboards, predictive analytics, and data mining

Development of tools for sophisticated data sets, appropriate coding/visualization platforms aligned for client demands to increase efficiencies and scalability

Conceptualize alternative procedures and processes to discover data relationships that drive new insights

Leverage data science tools and techniques in analyzing large datasets that will enable development of custom models and algorithms to uncover insights, trends, and patterns in the data that can be used to support decision making

Responsible for the evaluation of analytics and machine learning technologies for use in the business and communicate findings to key partners through reports and presentations

Build continuous integration, continuous development, and constant deployment pipeline (CI/CD pipeline)

Review, verify and validate the software code developed by using troubleshooting techniques

Work as part of geographically dispersed team in partnership with the trading desk and market analysts

Competencies:

Strong database management skills: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Databricks

Previous experience with CI/CD solutions (Gitlab), experience delivering software using Containers (Docker)

Strong data management workflow skills, including Git version control and collaboration, R package management

Hands on experience in machine learning (supervised, unsupervised and ensemble methods)

Excellent interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to communicate complex data science solutions, project conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong analytical skills and commercial mindset with the ability to troubleshoot problems efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner

Strong organization and attention to detail skills.

Qualifications:

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience.

Post-Secondary degree in a numeric field (Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics)

Advanced SQL expertise, proficiency in R and/or Python

Understanding of statistical methods

Experience with dashboarding/visualization (Spotfire, or similar)
