As a Senior Data Engineer on the Enterprise Engineering team, you will be responsible for working on a variety of data projects. This includes architecting, implementing and managing data models and data pipelines, developing, maintaining and upscaling the cloud data platform/services vital to the continued growth of Block as well as shaping our data engineering best practices.

Additionally, you will collaborate with stakeholders across Block to understand data needs and surface those data on our data platform, monitor and maintain its quality and governance, and have an impact on the data ecosystem within Block. You are a self-starter and you are comfortable working cross-functionally with other teams across Block.

You will:

  • Create robust and automated pipelines to ingest and process data from source systems into cloud data analytical warehouses using batch and streaming mechanisms leveraging cloud native toolset
  • Partner with key business stakeholders, upstream infrastructure platform engineering teams, and downstream data consumers to understand data and translate business requirements into technical design of building scalable data pipelines
  • Helps build, modernize, and maintain services and tooling to ensure resiliency and quality, resolve data discrepancies, and enhance the customer experience
  • Engineers and supports data structures, access control, governance and SOX compliance on Snowflake data warehouse
  • Be self-driven in identifying gaps and root causes, designing and implementing solutions to stabilize and scale data solutions
  • Monitor daily execution, diagnose and log issues, and fix pipelines to ensure SLAs are met with key stakeholders
  • Provide leadership and guidance for data engineering design across multiple initiatives and functional areas. Mentor other engineers and help them grow; code reviews, guidance on best practices, leveraging your experience in the field
Qualifications

You Have
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering
  • Strong technical intuition and ability to understand complex business systems
  • Advanced experience orchestrating data pipelines, designing and build database systems and scalable data models
  • Proficient technical knowledge in Python, SQL, Spark
  • Hands on experience in processing extremely large data volume
  • Experience with Airflow or Prefect, and Snowflake
  • Proven experience working with cloud environments, such as AWS and GCP
