The incumbent is also responsible for the architecture and evolution of the Institutional Data Space supporting Concordia University's business intelligence and analytics requirements. This position works closely with the different internal clients (e.g. human resources, finance, facilities, academic, faculties, research and advancement), enterprise and solution architects and the data governance committee to deliver value through business Intelligence and analytics solutions.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the university's goals and objectives, ensuring data integration, quality, and security.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an institutional data space framework including architecture principles, practices and patterns to ensure an institutional approach and usage in alignment with the enterprise architecture.
  • Architect and implement data protection / confidentiality mechanisms as assigned by the information security team and/or guidelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on data-related projects, ensuring best practices and standards are followed in data management and architecture.
  • Support policies and procedures enforced by the data governance committee to ensure best practices of data architecture including accountability, governance, and requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to determine data requirements and capabilities. Strategize and validate solutions.
  • Develop architectural strategies for data modelling, architecture and implementation to meet stated requirements for metadata management, data stores and Extract Transform Load environments.
  • Review data architectures proposed by projects to determine overall effectiveness and compliance with original objectives and framework.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies for improving or replacing underperforming areas.
  • Research new technologies, data modelling methods and information management systems to determine which ones should be incorporated into company data architectures and develop implementation timelines and milestones.
  • Contribute with the institutional data space solution architect to the evolution and the management of the platforms including strategies to optimize the service costs.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant field with a minimum of four to seven years' experience in an architecture role.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing data architectures in complex, multi-departmental organizations
  • Certification or experience with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
  • Experience as a business, solution, or enterprise architect is an asset
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Creative problem-solver with excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiar with the higher education landscape in Canada and Quebec is considered an asset.
  • Strong and proven experience with analytics platforms (data lake, data warehouse, data marts, ETL, data modelling, governance, etc.)
  • Advanced analytics / data scientist tools and environments knowledge are considered assets.
  • Strong leadership skills, customer focus, and the ability to work well with other professionals.
  • English spoken and written (level 4) and basic spoken French (Level 3)
  • Works on multiple initiatives simultaneously and managing conflicting priorities
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Analytics services (Synapse, Data Factory, Analysis services)
  • Experience with Power BI and Tableau.
