As a Senior Counsel, you will support the goals of the Assistant General Counsel, Global Technology & Trusts and Managing Counsel, Platforms, in achieving the strategic priorities and operational performance goals of the Law Group, in particular the performance commitments of solution-oriented advice and responsiveness. You will provide legal advice to the enterprise payments team on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters relating to payment initiatives across RBC, and advice to support RBCx and its Portfolio Companies - MyDoh, Dr.Bill, Ownr and Houseful.
What will you do?
Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Platforms legal team and act as senior legal advisor on enterprise payments initiatives across all business lines
Provide legal advice in connection with Payments Canada's modernization program, including the development of the new high value system (Lynx) and real-time rail (RTR) and legal framework governing these systems
Provide advice on various matters including advice on mergers and acquisitions, new and amended product development, and related compliance and negotiation of client agreements and governance matters
Support Open Banking advocacy and industry work
Advise the business on strategic initiatives in new and emerging areas that involve payments and merchant acquiring
Provide legal advice on new technologies and strategic initiatives for RBCx
Identify, assess and manage legal risks in an evolving and fast-paced environmen
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
At least 5 years of relevant experience at a large law firm or in house role
JD/ Bachelor of Law (Common or Civil Law) from a recognized law school and member of the Bar in any Canadian Province or Territory
Experience analyzing legislation and interpreting requirements for businesses to operationalize
Excellent communication, negotiation and drafting skills
Strong problem-solving and risk assessment skills, comfortable managing competing priorities and complex matters, ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions.
Nice-to-have
Experience in advocacy efforts, working with industry groups, and providing legal services relating to the payments ecosystem in Canada
Deep knowledge of enterprise businesses and functions, including technology, application and product development
Experience facilitating alignment between legal advice and business strategic priorities in complex regulatory environments
Experience in providing legal services relating to the payments ecosystem in Canada and tech start-ups.
