We are looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to lead and establish disciplined control of processes, reporting and ERP systems. This highly visible role will be relied upon to implement best standards as it pertains to manufacturing and financial operations.

This person is responsible for managing the financial health of the manufacturing business, which includes the creation of internal & external reporting packages, ongoing costing analysis, financial forecasts, working capital management and cross functional support of key stakeholders. This position is responsible for regularly assessing risks that impact cost and/or schedule and for providing proactive analysis of all financial aspects of the organization.

This role will require frequent trips to Vermont and New Hampshire.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People:

  • Provides support to budget owners in a matrix organization.
  • Directs the development and reviews of costs and other KPIs; works with plant managers to formulate action plans.
Process:
  • Solid understanding of ERP systems and how manufacturing and inventory transactions flow and impact the relevant subsidiary ledgers and general ledger.
  • Develops and maintains a product cost review process.
  • Enhance and maintain a robust cost accounting system.
  • Develops and maintains a regular review process to update material requirements, tracking, and labor and overhead costs.
  • Creates and maintains a time phased budgeting process, as well as the continuous monitoring of results vs. the baseline.
  • Helps develop a meaningful monthly reporting and analysis package to support operational reviews.
  • Provides documentation as needed in support of external audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Performance:
  • Monthly reporting and analysis including inventory reconciliation, inventory roll forward reporting, variance analysis, and inventory obsolescence reserve. Propose necessary journal entries on a monthly basis.
  • Manages inventory including physical to perpetual to general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, audit explanations, and standard costs.
  • Analyzes and reports on purchase price variances.
  • Provides product cost information utilized in month end financial closing.
  • Understands actual performance to standards and other metrics in order to drive improvement in operational performance.
  • Actively supports the P&L reporting for actual, budget and forecast in ERP/MRP and/or other reporting Database systems.
  • Actively maintains the master data creation and updates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver's license required for travel to Canada/U.S.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, cost accounting experience required.
  • Proficient with use of ERP/MRP systems and ability to pull detail data to support account analysis.
  • The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded background in cost accounting, financial analysis and ERP systems maintenance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, with exceptional organization skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a high sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Energetic, passionate and positive can-do attitude a must.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Office environment within manufacturing facility
  • Frequent travel to the U.S. required
