We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a Senior Controls Analyst to join our Business Services and Development team at Manulife Bank. In this role, you will partner with key stakeholders including Compliance, Risk Management, IT, Audit, and Operations. You will directly support Operations leaders during internal and external audits including business process and key control walkthroughs, evidence gathering, assisting with responses to audit findings and recommendations, all within expected timeframes. You will also liaise and directly support Operations on issue management, corrective action plans and governance and conduct key control testing. This position is focused on audit support and risk prevention and detection through enhancing existing controls and procedures or creating new ones to support risk migration throughout Operations.

What will I be doing?

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Providing \xe2\x80\x9cFirst Line of Defense (1b)\xe2\x80\x9d oversight by objectively identifying and implementing key controls for Operations as well as measuring, monitoring, and reporting on those controls across Operations
  • Overseeing the implementation of Operations internal control process improvements based on audit findings or operational risk recommendations
  • Performing periodic tests of existing controls to determine their effectiveness and making recommendation for process changes to enhance controls, or to develop new controls to close control gaps and/or operational risk
  • Working with Operational teams to implement/evaluate controls and recommend new controls where gaps have been identified, or when a new initiative or business process is introduced
  • Supporting Operations Leaders to review and respond to internal and external Audit requests, facilitate providing evidence, assisting with responses to findings and recommendations, and ensuring audit points and corrective action plans are closed within the expected timeframe
  • Facilitating closure of Operations Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), partnering with business stakeholders to provide satisfactory evidence to effectively close CAPs prior to due dates, with no recurrence of previously closed issues. Providing support to Operations teams in their management of risks with the purpose of improving operational risks controls
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including Compliance, Operational Risk Management, and internal and external Audit teams to support identification of issues and action plans to remediate control gaps
  • Assisting with Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) reviews for business teams across Manulife Bank, reviewing the adequacy of controls to determine if additional actions are required.
  • Assisting with annual FATCA/CRS filings, compliance and audit attestations, records retention, access reviews, and AML requirements
  • Managing ad hoc initiatives related to controls and governance within target dates
Qualifications

Am I right for the job?
  • You have a deep understanding of how operations teams and processes function at a Bank or similar Financial Institution
  • The risk and controls profession isn\xe2\x80\x99t new to you. You\xe2\x80\x99ve spent a minimum of 5 years or more growing your knowledge, skills and experience in this line of work and you have a clear track record of success in supporting or leading the implementation of internal control process improvements or initiatives.
  • You understand the \xe2\x80\x9c3 lines of defense\xe2\x80\x9d and your role within them
  • You have a strong understanding of controls frameworks and risk management practices, including those defined by OSFI and Basel III regulations.
  • You are familiar with audit and corrective action plan processes and have a Financial Services/Banking background.
  • You never lose sight of the customer - their needs and their experience in doing business with us. You put the customer at the centre of everything you do.
  • You have solid operational knowledge of Banking products and processes and the types of technology solutions that allow a Business to manage them.
  • You don\xe2\x80\x99t like to stand by when you notice that there\xe2\x80\x99s something that could work better. You are accountable, you own it, you find solutions and do something about it!
  • You have project management and analytical skills and can work with teams to critically analyze issues, lead with expertise, resolve problems and drive to implement solutions
  • You are a strategic thinker with the ability to think conceptually beyond day-to-day business realities and to effectively consider downstream impacts.
  • You learn FAST. You pick up new ideas, concepts, technologies, and tools easily. You are comfortable with MS Office applications and tools including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerBI.
  • You have an approachable style and great communication skills that makes people want to work with you
  • You \xe2\x80\x9cgo with the flow\xe2\x80\x9d and can adapt to change; you like to work in a fast paced environment.

  • You have a university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration and/or equivalent experience in a Controls environment within the Canadian Banking industry.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $68,775.00 CAD - $114,625.00 CAD
