The salary range for this position is:




Recruitment range: $75,755 - $83,525

starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: $98,528

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Mandate:



The External Relations team at Gustavson works to support and enhance connections with a wide range of stakeholders, which include alumni, community and business leaders, donors, advisors and partners. We offer a wide range of services - both locally and globally - focused on fostering lifelong relationships between the university and its external community. These programs, services and initiatives help increase personal involvement in, awareness of, and commitment to, Gustavson's academic mission and priorities.


Objectives:



As a member of the communications and marketing team, this position advances this work through strategic, creative and engaging communications, marketing and PR across digital, print and multi-media platforms.


The Senior Content Officer (SCO) reports to the Director, Communications & Marketing (ADCM) and is the senior writer and editorial planner for the business school. In this role, the SCO identifies, pitches, researches and writes feature articles for publications on and off campus. The role also manages print and digital publications such as the business school's alumni magazine, annual reports and research impact reports.


A key contributor to the school's communications & marketing strategy and planning, the Senior Content Officer recognizes and produces new ways of engaging key audiences through multi-media content and innovative communications & marketing products. Working as part of a nimble, integrated marcom team, the SCO should be comfortable creating content for platforms across traditional and emerging communications and marketing realms.


Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, PR, communications or similar; plus 5 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.


Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:




Exceptional writing and editing skills to produce compelling, accurate and on-brand communications projects. Detail-attuned with a knack for bringing content strategy to life through storytelling. Thinking like a managing editor, with excellent content strategy, research, interview, planning and writing skills, plus familiarity and comfort with interpreting and applying brand and style guides. Combining a love of language with creativity, curiosity, and the ability to write accessible, engaging copy for a variety of platforms and guide others to do the same. Knowledge of interview techniques and comfort interviewing a wide range of individuals Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment. Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills. Ability to apply project management best practices to achieve project goals on time. Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective design strategies to achieve desired outcomes. Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment. Knowledge of magazine publishing trends and fundraising communications an asset.
