What will your typical day look like?

We are hiring an Investment Consultant to join our Canadian ventures team. This opportunity is remote-first, with the choice to work from one of our offices and you will be supporting Deloitte Ventures' Investment team.

As an Investment Consultant, you will play a key role in all aspects of the investment process: origination, deal execution, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring.

You will be part of a small team with active involvement in identifying, developing, and working on venture capital investments as well as fund investments in support of DV's strategic priorities. As an Associate you will help us manage the day-to-day activities of our team in a number of areas, including:

• Perform market research and due diligence for potential investments, which would typically entail
• testing products and services
• competitive market analysis
• speaking with industry and technical experts
• performing financial modelling and analysis (financial projections, sensitivity analysis, valuations, and returns)
• conducting reference checks of company founders and executives as well as with customers and partners
• Develop investment theses and create memos to be presented to the investment committee
• Research specific sectors of strategic interest to identify and connect with companies that could be interesting investment targets
• Work with DV portfolio companies, including research projects, competitor analysis, valuation work, financial modeling, etc.
• Network with peers in other VC Firms and generally in the startup community. Build a relationship with VC Funds to understand their portfolio and pipeline where possible
• Maintain the CRM system, keep the target pipeline up-to-date with the status of targets, summaries of call notes and other pertinent deal information
• Stay close to market developments to help identify new investment trends and opportunities
• Support ongoing strategic initiatives and reporting requirements, such as KPI reporting

Deloitte Ventures (DV) plans to make minority equity investments in earlier and growth stage technology companies. Using Deloitte's extensive and privileged market expertise/relationships, Deloitte Ventures intends to select, foster, and accelerate investments that have strong potential or traction in markets Deloitte is already serving or is keen to serve in the future. Investing in earlier and growth stage companies will grant Deloitte access to new and emerging business models, unlock go-to-market opportunities, and incorporate cutting-edge technology and intellectual property into the solutions clients need most.

Deloitte's CVC is an investment fund that seeks to invest in early to growth stage companies - using Deloitte's unique capabilities internally to then accelerate that investment
Investments will focus on early and growth stage companies with products, teams, and alignment to Deloitte from an expertise, network, capability, and brand perspective

• 3+ relevant work experience in Venture Capital, M&A, tech focused consulting, or investment banking
• Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills
• Exceptional written and oral communication/presentation skills
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated with strong drive and the ability to self-direct
• Advanced skills with Excel, PowerPoint and Word including excellent financial modelling skills
• Knowledge of operational and financial drivers and best practices affecting technology companies
• Entrepreneurial attitude and interest in working with early and growth stage companies
• Strong interpersonal skills - you'll often be talking to entrepreneurs and other investors
• Strong organizational skills - you'll be keeping track of documents for a large portfolio of investments and ongoing due diligence activities
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects and initiatives and work within an environment of rapid change and evolving priorities
