Position Overview
Imperial Oil Resources Limited is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Superintendent to oversee field execution and contractor performance at the Kearl Oil Sands site. This position provides on-site leadership and direction to ensure construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering specifications, project requirements, and company standards.
The successful candidate will bring a proven background managing multidisciplinary construction scopes on large capital projects and the ability to coordinate across multiple contractors and work fronts in a high-performance, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate daily field construction activities for assigned areas, ensuring safe and effective execution in accordance with the project schedule and quality requirements.
Supervise and interface with multiple contractors, trades, and subcontractors to ensure alignment with project goals and compliance with site procedures.
Review and provide input on submittals, RFIs, and RFCs, making recommendations to support timely and accurate field decisions.
Verify contractor quantities for payment and ensure accurate field documentation.
Review and monitor contractor safety plans, environmental controls, traffic management, and erosion control measures.
Identify and document construction non-conformances; assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
Serve as the primary company representative at sub-sites or work areas where no Construction Site Manager is present.
Provide construction expertise and mentorship to project and contractor teams, ensuring technical integrity and adherence to standards.
Maintain effective communication and collaboration with contractors, project engineers, and site management.
Support overall construction readiness, progress reporting, and completions handover activities.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of field construction supervision experience on major capital projects, ideally within oil sands, upstream, or heavy industrial environments.
Demonstrated success managing multiple contractors, scopes, and trades within an integrated project site.
Strong working knowledge of construction standards, quality management, and ASTM material testing procedures.
Proven track record of enforcing safety leadership and environmental compliance on large industrial job sites.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills with the ability to drive alignment among diverse stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent technical discipline preferred.
Willingness to work on a 21 days on / 21 days off rotational schedule at a remote oil sands operation.
Preferred Experience
Direct involvement in Imperial Oil / ExxonMobil or oil sands construction projects.
Background in earthworks, mechanical, structural, or tailings infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with field turnover, commissioning, and completions processes.

Schedule: 21 days on / 21 days off rotation
Hours: 84 hours per week
Duration: October 13, 2025 - December 31, 2026
Compensation: $121.71/hour (Contingent Labor)
