Located at 3099 Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3K 5M7, and 35 Micmac Boulevard, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, B3A 4Y8, Irving Shipbuilding has a proud history as Canada\'s shipbuilder. Since 2012, we have invested more than $400 million in facilities, people, processes, and technology, making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern and capable shipyards in North America. Over the next 30 years our shipbuilders will construct 20+ modern patrol ships and surface combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy as part of Canada\'s National Shipbuilding Strategy, the largest defence procurement in Canadian history. This year we delivered the second lead Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship, the largest Navy ship built in Canada in 50 years and we\'re just getting started. The third ship will be delivered in 2022.

Our workforce of over 2,000 will grow to more than 2,800 at peak construction of the Canadian Surface Combatants. Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a term Senior Communications Specialist.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:

• Education required:

• Bachelor\'s degree or Advanced Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, and/or equivalent experience.
• Experience required:

• Minimum of 5 years experience
• Considerable knowledge or the principles, techniques and methods of media/public relations and communications. Knowledge of the processes and equipment used in the design and preparation of multimedia graphics, brochures, and other visual aids.
• Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles, and procedures to assign work, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
• Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas. Ability to handle a variety of issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Experience directly supporting executive level management.
• Highly organized individual who takes pride and ownership; outgoing personality who enjoys working with/helping people.
• Must be a self-starter and problem solver and be able to work independently in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead social media strategy, including overseeing the content calendar and researching best practices.
• Oversee and maintain brand and branding strategy for communications, visual representation, and websites.
• Establish strategic partnerships and collaborations to further company goals and initiatives; includes relationships with public, private, nonprofit, and community stakeholders.
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and produce public information products including brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, news releases, websites, and other informational/educational promotional materials.
• Support media relations, which includes developing new relationships as well as fostering existing ones.
• Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations. Share knowledge with staff for mutual and departmental benefit.

Outreach & Events:

• Responsible for the planning and coordination of outreach/education events, public forums, and community activities.
• Support outreach and education events with printed media and promotions materials; responsible for promoting and memorializing outreach events via website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
• Oversee design and creation of brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, flyers, and other materials focused on outreach efforts and program exposure.
