Responsibilities



Reporting to the Director of Communications, Research, Innovation and Discovery, and as part of the Nova Scotia Health Communications and Public Engagement team. The Senior Communications Advisor, Research, Innovation and Discovery is responsible for developing and maintaining a strategic integrated approach to communications, public relations and engagement activities in support of the Research, Innovation and Discovery ecosystem in Nova Scotia. Working with the Research, Innovation and Discovery leadership and communications teams, colleagues in communications portfolios with Nova Scotia Health, IWK, DHW, government departments, universities and colleges, and key external stakeholders, this position provides communications leadership and advice to support priorities and facilitates actions that serve both the organization\'s and stakeholders\' perspective.
In addition to superior communication skills and engagement expertise, the role requires an understanding of the Research, Innovation, and Discovery ecosystem, including research activities, business development and commercialization (innovation), and implementation science / learning health system and Interprofessional Practice and Learning, and the capacity to apply this knowledge in developing communications strategies and materials. This position helps build and support a culture of internal and external communications and stakeholder engagement which is time and politically sensitive, consistent, and reflective of the goals and objectives of the Research, Innovation and Discovery portfolio that enhances understanding and awareness of Nova Scotia Health\xe2\x80\x99s role as a leader in the Research, Innovation and Discovery ecosystem. An in-depth understanding of the strategies and optimal communication methods used to engage and support researchers and innovators is considered integral to the role.
Demonstrating leadership behaviors and capabilities consistent with LEADS in a caring environment framework, which include Lead Self, Engage Others, Achieve Results, Develop Coalitions, and System Transformation, the Senior Communications Advisor focuses on evidence-based strategic communications initiatives and supporting day to day communications operations for the Research, Innovation and Discovery portfolio. Working with leaders, researchers and innovators, physicians, staff and learners throughout Nova Scotia Health, as well as health system partners, this position ensures the Research, Innovation, and Discovery portfolio\xe2\x80\x99s communications are timely, relevant and effective upholding the mission and values of Nova Scotia Health.

Qualifications



We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary study in mass communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of five years\xe2\x80\x99 relevant experience in the communications and public relations sector.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to communications, public relations, engagement, media relations, crisis communications and online engagement.
  • System-focused thinking with strong analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to support internal and external collaborative relationships; ability to work effectively within cross-departmental teams.
  • Experience with high-profile public relations issues and in reputation management.
  • Computer proficiency and interest and ability to work within social media.
  • Ability to manage projects, delivering on budget and on time.
  • Assets include:
  • Knowledge of IAP2 principles and practices
  • Knowledge of change theory and change management practices
  • Experience in the health sector
  • Working proficiency of French

Hours of Work



Temporary, Long Assignment Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Anticipated start date, February 20th, 2023 to February 20th, 2024

Salary Information



$37.66 - $47.07 hourly $73,432.52 to $91,790.40 annual salary
