Conditions of Employment:


Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (EGM) Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check Must have a valid MB class 5 drivers license and personal vehicle for business purposes. Must be able to work overtime as needed and travel within the province by ground and air, which may require overnight stays (possibly in a camp environment) While at work sites, may be exposed to the following: road construction equipment, roadway traffic, asphalt plant area, noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, slip-trip-fall, carrying/twisting, insects, vegetation & sharp objects, machinery, heights, and chemical exposure Must be able to work outdoors in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures

Qualifications:


Essential:




Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with a graduate degree in structural engineering. A combination of education, training and experience may also be considered Knowledge in the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and associated regulations Extensive knowledge of structural design and analysis, material selection and load calculation. Expertise in construction processes and a comprehensive understanding of occupational codes, standards, and regulatory requirements Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications and safe work procedures. Experience in Project Management and developing technical documents to support project planning and execution Highly developed verbal, listening, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Strong written communication skills Ability to undertake independent research and prepare information for others regarding media inquiries, investigations files and technical information for the branch

Duties:


The Senior Civil Engineer is a Professional Engineer who has expertise in structural engineering provides extensive knowledge of structural design and analysis, material selection, and load calculations for investigations and enforcement of Workplace Safety and Health Act and associated regulations. With a strong background in project management, this individual is capable of overseeing multiple complex projects while producing highly technical documents for various stakeholders, including "the Director", the Manitoba Labour Board, and the Manitoba Courts regarding prosecutions. The role also requires a solid foundation in construction practices and involves providing strategic recommendations to the Department on technical legislation, regulatory matters, and policy development.



The Senior Civil Engineer will provide the branch with expert technical guidance on structural and building matters defending engineering work, assisting officer enforcement, and advice on policy matters. This individual has achieved appropriate recognition in structural engineering practices supported by extensive education and professional experience.
