Job Summary

A

Senior Care Director

(also known as a Director of Care, Director of Seniors Services, or Executive Director in long-term care or assisted living settings) plays a critical leadership role in managing the operations, staff, care standards, and regulatory compliance of a senior care facility.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree

in Nursing (BSN), Gerontology, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, or a related field.

Master's degree

preferred (e.g., MHA, MPH, or MBA with healthcare focus). If the director oversees clinical care, they often must be a

Registered Nurse (RN)

with a current license in the province (e.g., BCCNM registration in British Columbia).

Professional Certifications (optional but beneficial):

Certified Director of Nursing Administration (CDONA)

Certified Assisted Living Administrator (CALA)

First Aid, CPR, and medication administration certifications (depending on jurisdiction)

Experience Requirements:

5-10 years

of progressive leadership experience in senior care, long-term care, assisted living, or health services. Experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams (nursing, dietary, housekeeping, recreation, etc.). Proven record in budgeting, staff development, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of

local health regulations

, licensing standards, and elder care legislation (e.g., CCALA in BC). Excellent

leadership and conflict resolution

skills. Strong

interpersonal

and

communication

abilities for working with staff, residents, families, and health authorities. Proficiency in

care planning

infection control protocols

Crisis management

and emergency response experience are often expected.

Pay: $103,844.89-$209,291.67 per year
