The Senior Business Systems Analyst is responsible for providing business analysis expertise, and for delivering detailed requirements and specifications related to TELUS Health proprietary applications for our Absence and Disability line of business.

In a typical day, you\xe2\x80\x99ll meet with business stakeholders, developers and system architects to gather the information you need to create wireframes, process models and detailed functional specifications.

You\xe2\x80\x99ll investigate and research both new business issues and requests for changes to our systems depending on the nature of the request.

Throughout the software lifecycle, you will support developers, IT QA specialists and business UAT resources to clarify requirements; occasionally, you\xe2\x80\x99ll do the testing, too.

As a change is rolled out, you\xe2\x80\x99ll help your business stakeholders understand how it works and how to use it. At times may be required to work overtime, weekends and evenings to accelerate requirement timelines and support testing during system deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with internal business users, department leads, clients, vendors, and assigned project resources eliciting, collecting, and analyzing business requirements for medium/large complex project implementations, ongoing maintenance, and system enhancements; conducts gap analysis to determine where requirements and/or business objectives are not being met and steps to resolve the gaps
  • Collaborates with agile feature team members (product owners, testers, developers, agile delivery managers, UI/UX designers) as a mediator and advisor to communicate business requirements, functional behaviors of the feature, and business priorities based on strategic directives
  • Recommends data models and system architecture solutions, produces detailed requirements and specifications, current and future state business processes, wireframes, and models used by business users and development team; analyzes business processes on a large scale and derives strategies to improve operational efficiency, cost savings, system integrity, and product sustainability; feature/solution ensures data reliability and validity
  • Produces testing documents and test cases, and performs testing as required; reviews test plans to ensure comprehensive testing of business requirements; assess risks and test area priorities against timeline such to recommend a testing strategy
  • Performs other tasks and special projects, as required (i.e., supporting colleagues in troubleshooting, investigation, and knowledge transfers)
  • Builds knowledge of industry topics and trends through internal training, external training, and self-study, as appropriate
  • Perform requirements management, timeline management, estimations. These include, but not limited to, managing multiple ongoing requirements assignments, prioritizing work against competing timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of requirements/analysis tasks and their milestones, assessing initial change requests for possible solutions and potential risks, identifying opportunities for workflow efficiency, and communicating changes to stakeholders.
Succeeding as a Senior Business Systems Analyst requires the following core qualifications and skills:
  • 7+ years of experience as a business analyst preferably in a technically oriented environment and worked on technical assignments and/or projects
  • Lead and collaborate with business Subject Matter Experts (SME), stakeholders, business resources, Project Managers, other Business Analysts, and developers to ensure that solutions are thoroughly thought through and issues and risks are identified and resolved
  • Excellent communication skills and utilizes varying formats, methods, and styles for effective communication
  • Demonstrated ability and understanding of negotiation, conflict management and risk management skills
  • Consistently assesses the return on investment (cost / benefit) of software solutions
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and creative-thinking skills
  • Solid understanding and work experience in Software Development Life Cycle
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience with various analysis and techniques to write detailed specifications and requirements for software development
  • Experience with and uses various visual modelling techniques that is appropriate for the type and scope of the assignment
  • Understanding concepts in data modelling and relational database design
  • Experience analyzing data using SQL
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Ability to work independently, takes initiative, and exercise good judgement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development concepts (application standards, reusability, configurability, focus on internet applications and mobile applications)
