Role Summary

Come be part of an exciting and challenging opportunity by helping to accelerate the growth and application of data analytics capabilities at Sun Life Canada. As part of the Financial Operations Reporting Centre of Excellence, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of applying data and analytics to transform our financial reporting processes. You will be helping Sun Life use analytics to deliver on our purpose of helping our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives.

As a Senior Data Analyst on the Financial Operations Reporting COE team, your focus will be working with a team of financial professionals to build out a suite of impactful business intelligence products and solutions to support Financial Operations within Canada. These products and services will allow Sun Life Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Finance leaders to better analyze financial drivers and make data driven decisions.

What will you do?

Reporting & Business Intelligence (50%)

Build out comprehensive business intelligence & reporting for Finance leadership, keeping in mind the needs of varied audiences and the desire to drive insights & action

Coordinate with partners to ensure existing and in-development reporting meets the evolving needs of the organization

Enhance our partners\' ability to self-serve data through customizable dashboards and raw data dumps

Work to improve data literacy across the organization. Focus on improving ability to access data & to understand potential insights from data

Initiatives, Operational Support, & Complex Investigations (30%)

Leverage data expertise to support initiatives through scoping, implementation, impact analysis, and ongoing reporting.

Source & provide data to the various finance areas to drive efficiencies in day-to-day operations & enable leaders to make timely data-driven decisions

Solve data intensive business issues using data from a variety of sources & incorporating expertise from relevant Sun Life business units

Perform deep-dive analysis on key areas of interest for Finance leadership and communicate results in appropriate manner

Data Sourcing, Manipulation, and Transformation (30%)

Become an expert on Sun Life financial reporting data and the underlying drivers

Develop a strong knowledge of quantitative data mining tools and techniques

Effectively translate business and project needs into data extraction and manipulation plans

Source, extract, clean, and transform data to meet team & partner needs

Organizational Best Practices (10%)

Work to drive efficiencies within Canada Reporting COE by ensuring adoption & continued evolution of best practices

What will you need to succeed?

Relevant Experience and Education

An undergraduate or graduate degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting or computer science, plus strong quantitative skills and background, or equivalent work experience

5+ years proven experience and ability in the following areas:

Reporting and business intelligence

Data sourcing, manipulation, and transformation

Insightful analysis of data

A passion for solving problems

Critical thinking skills

Business understanding

Strong knowledge of data visualization software such as Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, etc.

Proven experience with a subset of SAS, SQL & VBA

Able to write complex queries to extract and integrate data from multiple data sources

Problem Solving

Proven balance of analytical and creative problem solving skills

Coordinate with partners to ensure existing and in-development reporting meets the evolving needs of the organization

Communication

Ability to distill complex technical information into the key points that matter to the audience

Effective writing and verbal communication skills

What will be nice to have?

Industry Experience & Knowledge

Past experience in life insurance / wealth management, other financial services industry

Working knowledge of one or more Sun Life Canada business units

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
