Senior Behavioural Scientist

Primary Purpose: The Behavioural Public Policy Lab is an interdisciplinary research unit housed in the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan, one of Canada's U15 major research institutions. We use behavioural science to improve access to public services. We focus on positive impact, working closely with policy makers to find out what works (and what doesn't).

The Senior Behavioural Scientist combines expertise in social and behavioural science with experimental methodology to co-design and test solutions to social and economic problems. The position will also be responsible for communicating findings to academic audiences and policymakers.

Accountabilities

  • Design large-scale, digital field experiments using best practices and ethical standards from the social and behavioural sciences
  • Develop behaviourally informed interventions to a standard that could lead to publication in refereed journals and respected publications
  • Conduct timely, evidence-based literature reviews
  • Co-author academic manuscripts and policy reports
  • Oversee data collection, including record linkage of administrative and survey data
  • Contribute to community engagement, including Indigenous communities, while exercising judgment, tact, and cultural sensitivity
Education: PhD (completed or in progress) in psychology, economics, political science, or another area of social or behavioural science

Experience: This position requires previous research experience and a track record of academic, peer-reviewed publication. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following: user experience design or data science, working in the public sector or in applied policy contexts, and conducting research in an Indigenous context.

Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex scientific findings to academic audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and analyze randomized experiments
  • Demonstrated statistical competency in at least one programming language, such as R, Python, or Stata
