Position Summary
Are you passionate about cutting-edge audio/visual technology and its role in shaping innovative learning environments? As the Senior AV System Designer/Installer - Projects, you will be at the forefront of transforming physical and digital learning spaces across campus. Operating within the Learning Space AV team in the Digital Learning Environment (DLE) portfolio, this role is your opportunity to take the lead on high-impact AV projects that go beyond routine maintenance--ranging from state-of-the-art classroom builds to advanced renovations and custom tech upgrades.
From concept to completion, you'll be the driving force behind the full AV project lifecycle: collaborating directly with clients, crafting tailored system designs, coordinating procurement and vendor engagement, and overseeing installation, configuration, and final commissioning. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring AV systems are designed to university standards while also meeting the evolving needs of hybrid and immersive learning.

Duties
Design, install, and commission AV system upgrades in classrooms, meeting rooms, and labs.
Manage the full AV equipment lifecycle, including procurement, configuration, and asset retirement.
Provide Tier 3 technical support for complex AV, control system, and integration issues.
Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and adherence to timelines.
Review and approve AV system designs to ensure compliance with institutional requirements and performance benchmarks.
Research and evaluate emerging AV technologies to support innovation and future-ready learning environments.
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in the area of media, design, theatre production, radio/television, and/or IT
10+ years of experience in the audio-visual or IT industry
Minimum of 5 years of working in an AV environment at a post-secondary institution
Intermediate to advanced technical knowledge of web and video conferencing systems
Experience within an educational environment
Experience with training both groups and individuals
Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication (oral and written), problem-solving, analytical and time management skills
Be able to deal with change and ambiguity
Need to have a clean driving record, a Class 5 driver's license, and advanced driver training from the U of A
Excellent customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
NAlT Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma
CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, or CET Certification
A+ Certification
IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) - Foundations Course
The ability to converse in multiple languages
