The Role

We are seeking a

Senior Automation and Controls Engineer

to join our Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (El&C) team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development, integration, and deployment of automation systems across industrial and manufacturing projects. You'll design and optimize PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems, while guiding cross-discipline teams in creating scalable and efficient control solutions. Your leadership will directly shape how we help clients achieve success.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as project discipline lead for Automation & Controls - define scope, manage schedule/budget, and lead coordination efforts

Program, test, and deploy PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and SCADA systems for industrial automation applications

Develop HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens and interfaces for operator interface as required.

Integrate automation systems with other equipment and technologies (e.g., robotics, conveyors, sensors)

Troubleshoot hardware/software/process control issues

Develop detailed control logic documentation, narratives, shutdown matrices, and functional descriptions

Provide design and review support for control panels including power distribution, wiring, and schematics

Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and internal best practices

Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and trends to support innovation

Perform field investigations, provide construction supervision, and on-site commissioning support.

What You Bring

Education & Certification:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (a technical diploma with relevant experience may be considered)

Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is preferred

Experience & Skills:

10+ years in industrial automation and control systems design and implementation

Proficiency in PLC programming languages: Ladder Logic, Structured Text, FBD

Experience with communication protocols: Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, OPC

Familiarity with Siemens, Rockwell Automation, or Schneider Electric platforms

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent communication and project coordination skills

Ability to lead independently and manage multiple complex projects

Experience in Food & Beverage, Pulp & Paper, or Power Generation sectors is an asset

Valid driver's license for travel to client sites
