Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Sr. Auto Underwriter to join our Middle Market team in our Calgary office.
Reporting to the Director, Middle Market Prairies, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining broker relationships with the aim to provide meaningful customer service and competitive commercial insurance solutions. Through development of strong broker relationships, you will thoughtfully underwrite new and renewal business while actively engaging in the marketplace to enhance the Zurich Canada brand. You will shape your portfolio of accounts within the broader Middle Market strategy as you utilize The Zurich Way of Underwriting, working within your delegated authority to ensure a high level of accountability and equally high level of service to customers.

What you will do
o Serve as an advocate of the Middle Market value proposition with a focus on understanding our customer's risks and offering the best solution for their needso
Develop and nurture broker networks related to mid-market customers with focus on target industries to support the organizations strategies.
Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting framework and within delegated authority levels on assignment of higher technical complexity and coordination.
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop and maintain relationships, enabling a superior experience for both external and internal stakeholders.
May provide guidance to lower-level associates.
Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound underwriting judgement.
Make broker/customer and on-sight calls.
Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account
Proactively engage in the target account process.
Serve as key Zurich contact for assigned target accounts.
Anticipate customer needs, monitor trends in order to recommend changes.
Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table
Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
AND
Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred:
Bachelors' Degree with 5 or more years' experience in the commercial Auto underwriting area
Completion of or working towards CIP, Advanced CIP, FCIP or CRM
Soft skills:
Strong negotiation skills.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Pre-existing broker relationships an advantage
Ability to prioritize and adapt in a changing environment
Experience working in a team environment
Motivated to achieve on strategy and objectives as an individual and as part of a team
