Job Requirements

  • +5 years of direct experience conducting appraisals of high value and complex risks, or applicable experience within architectural, engineering or construction related fields.
  • Strong understanding of residential and commercial construction practices and techniques and/or building codes across Canada.
  • Expert in valuation of high value construction and specialty items not commonly seen in homes
  • Architectural, custom home construction and/or estimating background an asset
  • Able to assess and mitigate risk of construction projects to reduce loss and positively impact insurance value
  • Ability to influence clients and colleagues through proactive advice
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must hold a valid driver's licence
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work with strict and often overlapping deadlines.
  • Work proactively with direct manager to develop improved client experience, operational and practice management practices and overall personal development.
  • Risk management and understanding of risks associated with the High Net Worth business
  • CRM/CIP considered an asset
  • Regular travel within province and some travel throughout Canada

TDI Senior Appraiser - will be primarily responsible for handling a volume of high value and complex risks across the country. This role will also take on initiatives aimed at providing personal growth opportunities, while supporting the overall department goals.

Key Accountabilities Include
  • Conduct insurance appraisals of TD's highest value and most complex risks, often-times for VIP clients. Appraisal reports are to establish adequate coverage amounts, identify potential additional coverage needs, documentation and photographs of materials, finishes and unique characteristics, end to end risk management and client consultation. This includes managing of construction projects, both renovation and new construction.
  • Promote the TD brand by acting as the face of the company during appraisals. This is to create a transparent process and earn customer trust.
  • Analyze and resolve disputes related to customer complaints, replacement cost and risk engineering, etc.
  • Review quotes of complex risks to provide replacement cost and risk management guidance.
  • Contribute data regularly from interviews with industry professionals including but not limited to general contractors, engineers, architects, interior designers and other design and construction professionals.
  • Be a subject matter expert for clients and colleagues, including development of less experienced personnel.
  • Quality assurance reviews of in-house and vendor reports.
  • Build a network of construction and home professionals and service providers.
