Senior Applied Ai Engineer (llms + Ml Systems)

Etobicoke, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

We're hiring a Senior Applied AI Engineer to help us build and ship LLM-driven capabilities across multiple products. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused: you'll design and deploy real AI features (structured extraction, workflow automation, agentic systems, retrieval/RAG, and multimodal inputs) with strong emphasis on reliability, evaluation, and production deployment--including environments that require on-prem inference for privacy and safety.

What you'll work on

Build LLM-powered features: structured extraction, workflow automation, agentic tools, summarization, and retrieval/RAG Implement constrained outputs (schemas/validators), evaluation harnesses, and continuous improvement pipelines Optimize and deploy models in production (latency, quantization, GPU/CPU, Docker/Kubernetes) Work with product + engineering to integrate AI into real workflows with safety and auditability Contribute to multiple AI projects--some include multimodal inputs such as audio, documents, and images

What we're looking for

4-8+ years building applied ML/AI systems end-to-end Strong Python + experience with modern LLM stacks (Hugging Face, vLLM/TGI, embeddings, vector DBs, etc.) Experience deploying models to production and owning performance/reliability Comfortable with evaluation (offline + online), A/B testing mindset, and building regression suites Experience with privacy-sensitive environments; able to support on-prem deployment patterns when required

Bonus (nice to have)

Experience with speech/audio pipelines (ASR/STT) and intent extraction from transcripts Experience integrating with enterprise systems, including healthcare standards (HL7/FHIR/SMART) or EHRs (Epic, Meditech) Background in regulated environments (healthcare, finance, gov)

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields; PhD preferred. Proven experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar tools. Extensive knowledge of AI techniques including natural language processing (NLP), unsupervised learning, model training, and deployment strategies. Strong programming skills in Python; proficiency in Java, C, VBA, Bash (Unix shell) is a plus. Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS for scalable model deployment and data management. Expertise in big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, ETL processes (Talend), SQL databases, and linked data concepts. Familiarity with analytics tools like Looker for visualization and reporting purposes. Experience with data mining techniques and database design principles for handling large datasets efficiently. Knowledge of quantum engineering principles as they relate to advanced AI systems is desirable but not mandatory. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a fast-paced environment. This role offers an engaging opportunity to lead innovative projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence and big data analytics while working with a talented team dedicated to technological excellence.
