Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Medical Manager - HSC Anesthesia and Manager - Patient Care, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the high-quality performance of anesthesia, cardiac and respiratory equipment including:

  • Patient Care - provides clinical assistance to the anesthetist during Off-site* cases including, assisting with airway management and monitoring of patients during procedures and transporting patients to the recovery room.
  • Technical - assessing, pre-testing, maintaining, repairing and modifying anesthesia machines, ventilators, cardiac monitors and accessory equipment in each of the 15 Operating Rooms (OR\'s) and off site* areas according to CAS** standards.
  • Consultant/Resource - acts as a technical resource relating to the maintenance, care and operation of anesthesia and respiratory equipment and related issues (e.g. Infection Control) including: committee participation; acting as a resource to, and training of, support, nursing and medical staff; assisting and participating in the development of new anesthesia suites; acting as primary contact for pharmaceutical and medical sales representatives.
  • Supervisory.

*Off site areas include: Psych Health, CancerCare, Neuro-angiography, CT Scan, MRI, Heart Cath Lab, Gamma Knife, Pacemaker OR, Cardiac Defibrillator Procedures Room etc.
**CAS - Canadian Anesthesia Society.

Experience
  • Three (3) years\' experience as an Anesthesia Technologist preferred.
  • Previous ICU experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in the trouble-shooting repair and maintenance of mechanical and electronic anesthesia equipment preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Technology.
  • Graduate of a recognized factory-based anesthesia machine and ventilator maintenance program preferred (e.g. Drager).
  • Extensive mechanical and electronic knowledge and understanding of anesthetic gas machines, cardiac equipment and related anesthetic equipment, including both maintenance and repair required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must hold a current active practicing license with the Manitoba Association of Registered Respiratory Therapists (MARRT).
  • Registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) preferred.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Basic skills in report writing and data collection preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility required in prioritizing workday.
  • Ability to work well in emergent situations.
  • Good organizational skills.
