Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director, Credit Risk and Risk Control, the Senior Analyst, Risk Control is responsible for analysing, monitoring, and managing financial risks associated with energy commercial and trading activities. In this role, you will produce daily and weekly risk reports; develop risk monitoring and analytical tools using various sources of data; and work closely with other members of the Risk Management Group and the Trading Group to track, quantify, and understand energy market risks. This position presents a unique opportunity to apply risk management concepts to energy trading and develop an expertise in the area.

Responsibilities




Monitor trading activities to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, and established limits; Understand and report portfolio changes through profit and loss attribution analysis, including monitoring position exposures and identifying key drivers of P&L fluctuations. Collaborate with various departments to update and maintain information in the Trade Capture System; Provide ongoing analytical valuation of physical generation assets; physical electricity purchases and sales; transmission positions; and financial commodity products (options, forwards, swaps); Understand portfolio risk, including non-linear real option exposures, correlations, and relationships to key drivers (i.e. weather, hydrology, locational basis, etc.); Leverage Python and SQL queries to extract and analyze data from multiple sources and tables, supporting risk analytics and reporting. Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations in Power BI to communicate risk metrics, portfolio performance, and compliance insights; Participate in group initiatives to improve risk reporting and reporting infrastructure/processes; Work on ad-hoc analytical requests from senior management and other teams; Support the Risk Control team in various other tasks.



Requirements




Demonstrated ability to think and act with strategic and tactical agility; Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information to understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a dedication to achieving high quality results with the organization's standards; Ability to use Python and SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from multiple sources. Ability to locate and collecting data from appropriate sources in order to analyze and prepare meaningful and concise report that summarize the information; Adaptability in order to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations, and with diverse individuals and groups; Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work effectively in a team in order to achieve organizational goals; Able to adapt and meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;




Qualifications




Undergraduate degree in quantitative finance or another quantitative discipline (e.g. economics, mathematics, physics or engineering); a Master's degree and/or financial designation (e.g. CFA, FRM or ERP) is considered an asset; 2 to 5 years of experience in energy and/or financial markets; Advanced proficiency in MS Office, with emphasis on MS Excel; Programming skills in Python and SQL; Experience with Databricks, Alteryx, Power BI and Tableau is an asset Knowledge of derivatives and/or previous experience in quantitative analysis; actuarial background is a definite asset; Knowledge of electricity and natural gas markets in North America is an asset; Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
