Senior Analyst - Real-World Evidence (RWE) Platform

. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


The Real-World Evidence (RWE) Platform supports clinical and health systems research by assisting Hotchkiss Brain institute (HBI) scientists in accessing, integrating, and analyzing routinely collected health data, data from clinical registries, and external data sources including surveys and population-based datasets. As a member of the RWE team, this position reports to the scientific leads of the RWE Platform. The Senior Analyst position involves working with the RWE staff and multiple principal investigators at the HBI.


Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Advises on research design processes and procedures regarding data collection, data management and data analysis within the specialty of routinely collected health data, and ensure project lead and manager are up to date and informed on progress and related challenges Participates in design and development of research processes including identification of methodologies, proposal development, recruitment strategies, and data analysis processes when required Assist in collection and tracking of data from monitored use of services, and provides information to various internal and external stakeholders Writes and develops ethics submissions and grant applications for new research projects. Completes and manages approvals for Alberta Health Services as necessary and required by the research ethics board Conducts literature reviews, knowledge syntheses and assist with systematic review Processes data using statistical software to conduct basic analyses of trends in support of the research project. Collects, consolidates, cross-tabulates and formats data from various sources to prepare draft reports Generates various reports as required by RWE Platform leadership and is actively involved in presentations if/when required. May require presentation of reports to various stakeholders
Compiles tables, charts, graphs, and summary statistics for integration in research papers and reports. This includes materials for presentation and publication

Qualifications / Requirements:



PhD degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, community health sciences, or a related health care field of study. Preference will be given to individuals with post-doctoral experience A minimum of three years experience conducting complex data analysis in a healthcare setting including advanced knowledge of health administrative data Knowledge of quantitative research methods, advanced skills in statistical software programs (e.g. R, SAS, STATA), and epidemiological principles Experience with screening, cleaning, linking, creating, modifying, and analyzing datasets in a statistical or database-management program Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) Excellent interpersonal and organization skills, including the ability to set work priorities and work independently or as part of a team Good written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by ability to produce well-written reports and research materials Experience and knowledge of University of Calgary research ethics and Alberta Health Services health administrative data is an asset Effective time management, attention to detail, personal initiative, and teamwork Strong leadership skills as this position will have a high degree of interaction with academic researchers, clinicians, RWE Platform leadership and team members, patients and other stakeholders Ability to thrive and deliver results in a fast-paced team environment Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Health Information Act, and other relevant legislation Knowledge of the University of Calgary processes and procedures is desirable
