We are looking for a Senior Analyst, Market Risk join us in the exciting work we do in Risk Commodity & Insurance Department. It\'ll be your responsibility to creates a broad set of opportunities for interaction with a wide range of internal functions as well as senior management within ATCO.

The Senior Analyst, Market Risk will contribute to the development and implementation of market risk management policies and procedures, in support of ATCO Energy\'s optimization efforts that enable the company to measure, monitor and manage energy commodity market risks. Reporting to the Manager Commodity Risk, this role is key to ensuring that the governance control, and reporting activities of the Middle Office function are put into practice daily.

What You Get To Do:

Risk Reporting

  • Responsible for oversight and performing the daily risk management analysis, monitoring, and reporting for environmental and emission products, natural gas storage assets, power trading, renewables.
  • Calculate and effectively communicate variances in Portfolio positions, P&L, MtM and risk metrics such as VaR, EaR and CFaR on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Build an automated daily curve marking process and provide independent validation of trade marks.
  • Lead and enhance current risk evaluation systems and processes to encompass all products in.
  • Build and maintain risk exposure reports for environmental products related to Energy and Carbon Allowances & Offsets.
  • Monitor compliance with policies, guidelines, and limits, report violations.
Risk Modeling and Valuation
  • Support the development and maintenance of market risk (VaR, CVaR, EaR & CFaR) and counterparty credit risk models (PFE & XVAs).
  • Support the development and maintenance of natural gas storage valuation model.
  • Collaborate with Load Forecasting for reviewing and vetting their inputs and updates.
  • Support stochastic modeling of power and gas spot and forward prices in Alberta as well as stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Provide adhoc valuation including risk metrics for physical and financial product.
Risk Governance
  • Support continuous business improvement through assessment of the effectiveness of Commodity Risk\'s processes and control environment, particularly related to valuation and risk metrics, and enhancement of these processes and controls.
  • Supports the management of governance meetings (e.g., committee, management, board meetings, etc.) as required; facilitates development and approval of agendas, gathering and distribution of documentation related to agendas, and creation of meeting minutes/output.
Who You Are:
  • Undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics or Mathematics supplemented with, or pursuing, post graduate degree.
  • Professional designation such as FRM, PRM or CFA is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in energy trading and risk management environment is required; Previous experience in the Electricity or Gas industry would be preferred.
  • ETRM experience is critical (knowledge of FIS Align and TRM Hitachi Energy a plus).
  • Knowledge of forecasting models, stochastic process, and market risk concepts such as VaR, tail risk exposure, stress-testing, back testing, P&L, MtM.
  • Knowledge of financial hedging on commodity products.
  • Experience in automating quantitative and reporting process in programming languages such as Visual Basic, VBA, R and/or Python, SQL.
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive and fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Effective communication skills with prior experience interacting with Risk Managers, Senior Management, Front and Back-office personnel.
  • Organized with an ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment against a backdrop of time and workload pressures.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships within the organization (Marketing, Business Development, Accounting, Treasury, and Internal Audit) and externally.
