More than ever, today's High Net Worth (HNW) philanthropists are looking for opportunities to drive measurable, sustainable large-scale impacts that address the world's biggest problems. HNW philanthropists have unique needs for deep engagement with their chosen causes and partner charities that include personalized stewardship experiences, rigorous reporting and access to technical expertise and leadership.

Within in this context, World Vision Canada will be launching a large capital-style campaign that leverages World Vision US' programming and HNW fundraising infrastructure (Global Programmatic Signature Initiatives) and join them in a coordinated HNW-focused campaign.

The Senior Advisor, Programs & Policy, will have a critical role in supporting the campaign programmatically across the WVC enterprise to support the above initiative in reaching its goals.

Specifically, this position will act as the primary face of the Global Programmatic Signature Initiatives to WVC stakeholders from a programmatic perspective, the primary interlocutor between WVUS IPG and WVC, as well as the point-person from WVC P&P to support the internal process management required for these projects to meet both WVC's government and contractual obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical and Thought Leadership:

  • Coordinate access to appropriate technical knowledge, storytelling, and programmatic examples, across each leveraged HNW project and facilitate briefing of WVC HNW donors in collaboration with the Philanthropy team.
  • Enhance the credibility of WVC's sectoral/programmatic expertise among HNW donors by facilitating engagement of appropriate technical specialists as needed.
  • Leverage learning and innovations from project implementation for ongoing resource acquisition in partnership with Philanthropy.
Capacity Building:
  • Strengthen the capacity of all HNW donor-facing staff. (Engagement/Corporate/Enablement) to speak with confidence about the Global Programmatic Signature Initiatives through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Support the capacity of specific field facing staff as well as key national office staff for HNW donor engagement as appropriate.
  • Strengthen capacity of WVC SMEs to engage with HNW donors.
Donor Relations:
  • Support the development of any additional/Canadian specific programmatic collateral - such as presentation materials, briefing notes, speaking points in preparation for donor engagement opportunities.
  • Participate in donor cultivation and engagement opportunities as needed, such as phone-calls, face-to-face meetings, and events.
  • Act as the primary face of the Global Programmatic Signature Initiatives to WVC stakeholders.
  • Enhance the organization's ability to cultivate a posture of compelling storytelling that brings the pillars and projects to life in donor engagement opportunities.
Process Management:
  • Act as the primary interlocutor between WVUS IPG, WVI and WVC on programmatic issues.
  • Support the review and finalization of all agreements, MOUs, etc., between WVC/WVUS/Implementing Offices.
  • Support the remittance of HNW donor funds to project PBAS codes, in collaboration with Philanthropy and Finance - lead will be Product Alignment.
  • Coordination of technical specialist reviews/approvals as required.
  • Actively participate in the governance body that oversees the global campaign projects.
  • Collaborate across P&P, Philanthropy, Finance and Legal to ensure ongoing review of process management for greatest impact.
Qualifications required:
  • A Master's degree in International Development, or other relevant sectoral education (Public Health, WASH, Economic Development, etc.,) with at least 10 years international experience in international development programming, or an undergraduate degree in the above with at least 7 years international experience in international development programming.
  • 7 years' experience in the design, implementation and management of large development projects.
  • Excellent understanding of multi-sectoral approaches to poverty alleviation.
  • Experience in working across and within departments in an organization with excellent negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in working with large scale philanthropy campaigns and engaging closely with philanthropy advisors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality in the context of program development, donor relations and resource acquisition.
  • Strong communicator who can translate technical programming into accessible, compelling, and engaging storytelling that establishes a connection between HNW donors and our programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in program documentation, program monitoring, donor report writing, networking, and partner development for resource acquisition.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional and remote teams for the purpose of program implementation, development of technical standards, and resource acquisition.
  • Availability for international and domestic travel 3-4 times per year as needed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and support staff at all levels. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Capable of working effectively with Board members, volunteers, consultants and donors/prospects.
  • A team player with an attitude of service and ability to motivate others.
  • Must be able to take initiative to meet deadlines in a time sensitive environment with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A deep, abiding passion for the mission of World Vision and its commitment to holistic transformation with both supporters and beneficiaries.
  • Able to professionally represent World Vision to external constituencies.
