Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto\'s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Network Planning Office is seeking a Senior Advisor, Network Planning to help shape the future of a modern, efficient and integrated transit system contributing to the economic growth of the region.

What will I be doing?

  • Leads major multi-disciplinary transit planning and policy projects to further the development and implementation of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH).
  • Provides creative network analysis, serving as a subject matter expert for issues related to transit and transportation system planning, policy, and analysis.
  • Serves as a key point of contact, liaising with stakeholders, municipal partners, and provincial ministries on regional transportation issues.
  • Provides advice and consultative services to senior management of business units within the organization on a range of transportation planning and policy issues.
  • Monitors the overall GGH transportation system to identify policy issues and recommends actions to align with Metrolinx and government strategies.
  • Identifies regional transportation trends, methodologies, and best practices, and assesses their application for Metrolinx policy and planning initiatives.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a degree in Urban and Regional Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Economics, or a related discipline - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in transportation planning and policy development.
  • Expertise in transportation, land use and/or fare policy and planning issues, preferably in the public sector.
  • Multi-modal transportation systems, and their relationship with principles and practices of land-use planning.
  • Contemporary transportation issues affecting provincial, municipal, and community stakeholders
  • Contemporary provincial / municipal legislation and government decision making processes
  • Economic theory and principles and policy development processes
  • Project management to act as a key contact amongst stakeholders, in a political environment where provincial and municipal legislation provide the framework
  • Planning, research, analysis, and problem solving to advise senior officials on politically sensitive or contentious issues
  • Knowledge of software applications applicable to transportation planning and project management.
  • Practical experience leading transportation planning projects with significant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and network data analysis is an asset.
  • Practical experience with transit project evaluation and appraisal is an asset.
  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and present reports, interpret policy, and provide representation on committees and task-forces, conduct negotiations, and facilitate stakeholder management.
