Our expectations:

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Senior Advisor Health & Safety is based at our Boucherville Distribution Center and is responsible to support, promote and lead a safety culture that focuses on commitment vs. compliance. Leveraging data and analytics to drive prevention strategies and decision-making, the Senior Advisor Health & Safety ensures that RONA is proactively addressing opportunities identified with a process or policy contributing to an unsafe situation to further our goal of zero accidents within the Distribution Centers network. This requires close coordination/collaboration with various business units and functions within the Distribution Centers network.

*Note: The successful candidate will support multiple Distribution Centers

Based at Boucherville Distribution Center
Travel to Terrebonne and St-Hyacinthe Distribution Centers approx once every 1-2 weeks
Travel to Varennes and Boisbriand Delivery Centers approx once every 2-3 weeks
May need to travel to a location more often depending on specific challenges, projects or meetings

Your role:

  • Conduct investigations for accidents and incidents by determining root causes and integrate preventative measures
  • Develop and Implement Health and Safety Programs to address health and safety concerns.
  • Consolidate, analyze and provide a summary of all Occupational injuries and illness statistics, including near miss incidents to the Management team and JHSC on a monthly basis
  • Provide support to hourly and salaried staff by having a visible presence on the warehouse floor, promote safety plans, goals, objectives, and measurements
  • Engage in fostering positive staffing relationships to gain commitment from all Distributions Centers staff
  • Attend monthly JHSC meetings
  • Ensure all Health and Safety communication boards are maintained and up to date to meet Provincial and Corporate standards
  • Maintain all training records and documentations in accordance with applicable Occupational Health & Safety, Laws, Regulations, Legislations and CSA\'s by provincial standards
  • Identify and inform management of compliance issues, safety risks and improvement opportunities by conducting daily, weekly and monthly audits
  • Regularly review programs, bulletins, reports and communicate facility safety issues and changes to team members
  • Collect and analyze statistical data pertaining to the Distributions Centers health and safety program
  • Prepare various reports to support various health and safety initiatives
  • Lead existing workplace health and safety programs including hazard assessments, workplace inspections, and incident investigation programs
The qualifications we are looking for:
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma with a focus on industrial engineering, design or occupational health and safety is preferred
  • 3 to 5 years\' experience in a position involving health and safety (within Distribution Center environment)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety Investigation techniques as well as provincially specific investigative requirements such as Critical Injury Notifications, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts found within applicable Occupational Health and Safety Legislation as well as relevant CSA Standards
  • Valid certification in basic First Aid, CPR and AED training is an asset
  • Proven communication skills, both oral and written
  • Confidence speaking in front of a group
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, resourcefulness, and initiative
