Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Foundation Relations, the senior advisor is responsible for developing and implementing complex provincial community engagement and communication activities by undertaking the planning and delivery of strategic relationship-building for all foundations/trusts \xe2\x80\x93 including provincial, regional, urban and rural partners. The Senior Advisor supports the Community Engagement and Communications department in helping Alberta Health Services pursue its mission, vision and strategic goals. Foundation Relations works with 70 foundations and 38 auxiliaries to help build our culture of philanthropy. You must identify and maintain critical relationships with a significant number of internal and external teams, partners and leaders. You will provide leadership and support in the development and implementation of engagement activities across the province. This position requires independent thinking and the ability to work autonomously in driving the daily requirements of complex and significant projects and issues. The Senior Advisor will have demonstrated experience in fostering a high-quality workplace with strong commitment to quality and process improvement. The advisor will be capable of working at a senior level with minimal direction.

Description:

Stakeholder Engagement: Provide proactive and strategic community engagement and communications leadership for foundations and auxiliaries across the province. Working with senior leaders from AHS and foundations to manage the due diligence of AHS Philanthropic and Honorific Namings. In partnership with the AHS senior leaders, manage AHS in-kind supports as foundations become self-sufficient as appropriate. Foundation Stewardship: in partnership with AHS senior leaders, develop templates to support strong and aligned approaches between AHS foundation boards, staff and donors. Establish and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders. Communications: Identify and manage professional development opportunities for foundations including the annual Philanthropic Leadership Forum. Foundation Lotteries: lead key relationships with internal and external partners for lottery communications which generate over $11M annually. Build our culture of philanthropy through various leadership initiatives including Health Philanthropy Month. Advise, consult and manage issues referred to the Senior Advisor that include politically sensitive decisions or developments that may negatively impact the health system\xe2\x80\x99s reputation. Provide consultation to leadership, program and service areas for the development of strategies and tactics to support alignment with foundation boards. Ensure the alignment, integration and coordination of communication efforts that advance the brand, image and reputation of Alberta Health Services at a provincial and local level. Navigate the relationship between AHS and our foundation partners, ensuring the alignment of foundations and AHS strategic planning and operational actions.

Required Qualifications: Completion of post-secondary undergraduate degree. Four or more years experience in developing and implementing positive engagement strategies that build relationships with philanthropic partners. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience managing projects. Strong diplomacy and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage tight deadlines, juggle multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to work with confidential, sensitive information in a changing and evolving environment. Proven ability to work with minimal direction. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team. Demonstrated experience in being self-motivated, with strong commitment to quality and process improvement.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Understanding of health systems and municipal and provincial government structure; or equivalent experience working with large, complex organizations. Confidence and ability to give advice to senior leaders. Efficient and proactive with strong sense of urgency. Ability to understand, utilize and communicate specialized information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Functional acumen in the world of philanthropy preferred. Experience working with or in the public sector is an asset.
