The City of Edmonton is looking for a Senior Accounting Assistant to join our team in the Tax Accounting unit, Taxation Operations. What will you do?
Provide technical support and training to accounting assistants and new staff
Perform complex analyses and calculations for unique situations
Assist the supervisor with ongoing program reviews and file reviews
Handle escalated inquiries from accounting assistants and provide expert advice on complex matters
Liaise with other City departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of adjustments
Oversee the reconciliation and clearing of suspense accounts
Audit and approve accounting entries and journal vouchers
Prepare entries for soft close and year-end financial reporting
Provide support for monthly/yearly forecasting and budgeting processes
Contribute to process improvements and document procedures
Qualifications
Completion of a two-year Accounting Diploma
A minimum of three years of accounting experience
Skills required for success:
Critical thinking skills to apply analytical and conceptual skills effectively
The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to explain complex matters
Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Public Sector Accounting Standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Time management skills to handle complex tasks under tight deadlines and shifting priorities
Advanced skills in using Google Applications (Docs, Sheets) is required
Demonstrate leadership ability and strong customer focus and contribute as a positive team player in a customer focused service environment
Knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations
Interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across departments and functions
Effective communication skills with courteous, positive problem solving
Strong attention to detail and focus on ensuring accuracy of work
Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded team
