Senior Accounting Analyst, Field Accounting & Operations, Canadian Business Banking

Purpose

The Senior Accounting Analyst is responsible for the accurate accounting of the Roynat / Scotia Asset Finance portfolio and to assist the Accounting Manager.

In this role you will perform numerous accounting functions including journal entries, reconciliations, invoicing and accounts payable for Roynat Asset Finance and Scotia Asset Finance. You will also be responsible for the preparation and accuracy of financial and management information including financial statements, and account analysis.

You are required to have a complete working knowledge of established accounting standards, procedures and internal control of the company in accordance with IFRS and public reporting regulations and provide a high standard of customer service.

Accountabilities:

\xef\x82\xa7 Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

\xef\x82\xa7 Responsible for the maintenance of the Asset Finance portfolio in accordance with the CICA Handbook, IRFS, Roynat\'s, and the Bank\'s policies and procedures by:

  • Maintaining general ledger, sub-ledgers, and trial balance; performing general ledger account activity analysis and completing account reconciliations
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annually financial reporting for Roynat and The Bank of Nova Scotia
  • Liaising with Canadian Banking Finance, Taxation, Executive, external and internal auditors and others as required to provide and obtain information
  • Completing accounting functions including but not limited to loan advances and repayments, monitoring cash flow, accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations, interest expense/income calculations, invoicing, and reconciliations
\xef\x82\xa7 Responsible for approving all wire and transfer payments to clients and partners for the ABL and Roynat Capital Business Lines.

\xef\x82\xa7 Maintaining the operation of the portfolio receivable systems; Stucky, Scotia Connect, and Monthly Trial Balance by:
  • Completing all the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual processing and ensuring all the reporting is printed and completed
  • Assisting with the development, testing, and implementation of enhancements to the systems above
  • Running the day end and monthly system process
  • Maintaining Chart of Accounts in the portfolio receivable systems
  • Maintaining and keeping all tables up to date within the systems i.e. rates
\xef\x82\xa7 Provide Backup to Accounting Manager by:
  • Liaising with Canadian Banking Finance, Taxation, Executive, external and internal auditors and others as required to provide and obtain information
  • Assisting in the preparation of the operating budget, quarterly forecasts, and variance analysis
  • Managing and maintaining general ledger, sub-ledgers, and trial balance; performing general ledger
  • Assisting in preparing various financial statements and management reporting
  • Assisting with audits and implementing all financial and accounting controls
  • Assisting in special projects as required
\xef\x82\xa7 Provide excellent customer service, meeting Bank\'s Scotia Service Standards by:
  • Responding quickly and accurately to inquiries from Management, support units, customers, suppliers and other Bank departments
  • Resolving transaction issues in accordance with Service Standards and/or escalating when necessary
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of information and ensuring security of data and applications
  • Ensure that all reporting deadlines are met
\xef\x82\xa7 Understand how the Bank\'s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

\xef\x82\xa7 Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information:
  • Post-secondary education in Business / Accounting / Finance - Degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an Asset Based Lending environment OR 2 - 4 years of credit analysis experience in a Commercial/Corporate Banking environment
  • Knowledge of the functionalities of Stucky NT / ABL is valuable - preferred not required
Must Have:
  • A thorough knowledge of:
(i) the business of financial intermediation
(ii) the Bank\'s Commercial Banking business lines and their related credit policies, procedures, practices, financing products and mechanisms utilized, security documentation
(iii) legal ramifications and remedies, bankruptcy and insolvency implications related to these business lines.
  • An understanding of legal and regulatory matters affecting the development, establishment AML / ATF issues and monitoring. The incumbent will draw on support from internal departmental sources (e.g., Compliance, Operational Risk, General Counsel) and/or draw upon external counsel and other professionals, as required. The individual can identify issues, can develop and implement recommendations, and exercises mature judgment in all dealings including internal audiences, as well as with external bodies such as regulatory authorities, agencies and examiners.

  • Superior influencing, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills in order to build consensus and obtain cooperation
  • Solid understanding of relationship management and commercial business, with a thorough understanding of products provided by and markets served by Commercial Banking
  • Solid understanding of the financial services industry, with particular emphasis on multinational and corporate clients/operations
  • Proven skills in risk assessment and management relating to AML / ATF matters
  • Ability to respond to / manage frequent interruptions, ad hoc requests and unplanned operating issues, along with constantly changing priorities
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as required
