Job Summary
The
Senior Accountant
plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of WAG-Qaumajuq's financial operations. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, processing payroll, preparing financial reports, and supporting strategic financial planning. The role also provides leadership within the Finance department and works closely with senior leadership to ensure financial sustainability and compliance.
Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable systems.
Process bi-weekly payroll, including reconciliation of payroll accounts, benefits, WCB, and government remittances.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Support the development and monitoring of operating, capital, and special project budgets.
Provide financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making.
Coordinate and lead the annual audit process.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.
Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Reconcile and report on Gallery Shop financials and other earned revenue streams.
Issue charitable tax receipts for donations of works of art.
Mentor Finance staff and support continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
CPA designation (or in final stages of completion).
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit or arts/cultural organization.
Experience with full-cycle payroll processing.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
The incumbent will work fully on-site for this role.
Assets:
Experience with fund accounting and CRA charitable reporting.
Familiarity with financial planning for fundraising and donor-supported initiatives.
Experience in the visual or performing arts sector.
