JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant assist for all the preparatory work related to quality and timely financial reporting as well as assisting department directors in budget development and audit related work. Oversight of contractual and contribution agreements and the corresponding financial reporting is also a responsibility of the role.
The Senior Accountant is assisting for reporting on and producing full-cycle financial statements for all programs of the Okanagan Indian Band. The position assist in monitoring that OKIB departments and services are administered in a cost-effective manner, and that the best interests of the Okanagan Indian Band are considered in all financial decisions.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to the Financial Controller.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in developing preliminary monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management, the finance committee, and Chief and Council
Support and/or oversee complex bank reconciliations and related analysis
Assist with cash forecasts and highlight concerns or issues related to cash flow
Support the reconciliation of complex general ledger accounts by reviewing and confirming transactions, following up on anomalies, and taking corrective action through adjusting journal entries
Assist with variance analysis on revenues and expenditures by analyzing income statements and balance sheet accounts, making comparisons to budget or prior year data
Support Contribution Agreement reconciliation and contract management.
Oversee and assist with maintaining the capital asset continuity schedule and reconciling the capital asset balance sheet accounts; ensure assets are correctly recorded.
Assist and collaborate in the strategic planning of all departments, including budget development
Assist in implementing short- and long-term goals
Assist in researching and preparing operational plans for the cost-effective administration of the organization
Support department Directors by reviewing income statements together and providing insights
Oversee and support the maintenance and enhancement of relevant financial systems
Review and approve Accounts Payable to ensure accuracy and compliance
Review, create, and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for finance processes to strengthen internal controls and efficiency
Act as a backup for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions as needed.
All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular responsibilities
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Review the General Ledger and financial records monthly
Support the finance committee
Attend the presentation of the annual audit at the Band meeting
Collaborating and support staff and delegate responsibilities
Attend required meeting.
Performs other duties as required

Education
An accounting diploma/degree
Valid BC Driver's licence, Class 5 and reliable vehicle
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
CAFM-AFOA preferred but not required
Experience
Minimum five years as senior level accountant
First Nation government experience an asset

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE
$70,000 - 90,000 per annum dependant upon education and experience.
