We are looking for a
Senior Accountant
to join our
Finance Team.
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing day-to-day accounting functions and maintaining financial accuracy. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will oversee core financial operations, contribute to finance initiatives, and collaborate directly with other departments to ensure the integrity and performance of our financial systems.
This role is a permanent, full-time position, based in Vancouver, BC, with a hybrid work environment. While we support working from home, we require our team to work a minimum of one day per week from our downtown office.

Salary Range:
$75,000 - $85,000per annum.
What you will do:
Lead the month-end close process, preparing accurate journal entries and reconciliations that ensure timely and reliable financial reporting under ASPE.
Conduct monthly P&L variance analyses and provide insight to the Director of Finance.
Keep our accounting records audit-ready by maintaining well-documented, up-to-date financials and internal controls.
Monitor and forecast cash flow with confidence, prepare bank reconciliations and ensuring financial stability across the organization.
Own the payroll process from end to end, executing accurate & compliant bi-weekly Canadian payroll and collaborating with People & Culture to reflect employee changes.
Prepare and submit year-end employee tax slips and government filings (T4s, T4As, ROE, etc.) to meet strict deadlines.
Prepare payroll related reconciliations and journal entries.
Support our year-end audit by preparing appropriate working papers, responding to auditor queries, and ensuring a smoot and efficient process.
Ensure timely compliance with tax filings (GST/HST, PST, EHT, WorkSafe), remittances, and year-end reporting.
Maintain and enhance internal controls and ensure proper documentation.
Champion system and process improvements, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and strengthen our use of cloud-based tools.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather accurate financial data and ensure seamless, efficient accounting processes across the co-op.
Provide guidance and backup support to the Finance Administrator to ensure continuity and accuracy in daily financial operations.
Assist the Director of Finance with ad-hoc tasks and special projects to support evolving business needs.
What we are looking for:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
2+ years of hands-on Canadian payroll experience, including both salaried and hourly employees.
A post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Accounting or Finance.
Proficiency in Sage or other cloud-based accounting platforms.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the broader Office Suite.
Strong understanding of ASPE.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Experience with auditing processes and compliance standards.
Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with all stakeholders.
Proven initiative in driving change and optimizing processes.
Comfort with ambiguity, and ability to adapt quickly to a new environment and tools.
A collaborative team player who aligns with Modo's mission and values and who brings curiosity, positivity, and initiative to everything you do.
Bonus points if you:
Have a CPA designation or currently working towards one.
Have a solid working knowledge of Dayforce and PowerPay.
Have a good sense of humour.
Are bright, curious and open-minded.
