This role is responsible for personal and corporate tax preparation as well as compilation engagements and other accounting projects. The ideal candidate for this role will either hold or be working towards a CPA designation with a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a public accounting office. The candidate should have excellent client service and attention to detail. Organization skills and accuracy are extremely important in this role as well as a track record of quality work.

Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for the completion of tax engagements by computing taxes owed, preparing personal and corporate tax returns, preparing year-end tax forms (T4s/T5s)
Responsible for the completion of compilation engagements by working closely with clients, bookkeeping staff, and/or partner to gather required supporting documentation, prepare working papers and financial statements
Conduct thorough tax research to stay updated on current tax laws and regulations, providing insights and recommendations to the team
Evaluate existing business processes and policies and advise on policy and tax changes; developing proactive tax strategies that make effective use of business opportunities and ensure businesses are run effectively
Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies and discuss with other team members and/or engagement partners to develop resolutions
Correspond with clients and various government agencies to address client tax compliance issues
Assist clients with accounting reconciliations, applications and problem solving
Ad-hoc controllership work as required by clients
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Completion of, or working towards a CPA designation; completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements will also be considered
Minimum of 2 years of public accounting firm experience required; ideally focused on personal tax
Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
Experience working with accounting and tax software such as TaxPrep, Caseware, QuickBooks is an asset.
Self-starter that can problem solve and resolve situations independently
Demonstrate care and attention to client request and final deliverables
Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills
Ability to plan, prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
Strong technical skills and ability to learn multiple tax and accounting platforms.
