What We Will Ask of You:



As a key member of our Central Administration team, the Senior Accountant plays an important role. On most days you'll be providing oversight to the finance function while providing support to the Payroll & Financial Analyst as well as the Accounting Coordinator. The Senior Accountant provides reports to the Director of Finance & Infrastructure by ensuring the financial reports adhere to standards outlined by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for NPO's and sector specific other legislative standards. The Senior Accountant seeks to support agency staff to do their best work in fulfilling the agency's operational plan and strategic direction through specific financial directives.

Primary Responsibilities:



Responsible for review and approval of the bi-weekly payroll report, ensuring employees are paid in compliance with applicable legislation including, Employment Standards Act (ESA), Ontario Pension Benefits Act (OPBA), Income Tax Act, agency financial policies and procedures and applicable employee changes such as; statutory deductions as well as pension and/ or benefit contributions, salary and/ or position changes and terminations within the payroll cycle. Oversee month-end closing activities, including review of bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and restricted funding reconciliations. Assist the Director with budget preparation and financial report compilation, including variance analysis and supporting documentation. Develop and maintain comprehensive data systems to document revenue recognition within the billing cycle. This includes contract management, invoicing, payment processing and reconciliation of deferred revenue. This also includes assisting the Director of Finance with revenue forecasting and profitability analysis. Develop and maintain comprehensive data systems to document payroll, time away, program and staff expenses and budgeting strategies to support the Director as directed. Review credit card purchases, staff expense reports, and EFT runs for registered vendors, Outside Paid Resources (OPR's) and Service User families to ensure accuracy, proper authorization, and full compliance with established financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications:



Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field or equivalent experience and knowledge. 5+ years of combined experience in a variety of finance related areas: Accounting, Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP) , Reconciliation and Month end reporting, and Financial Statement (FS) Reporting. Experience working in developmental sector or non-for-profit is considered an asset. Strong attention to detail, well organized with an excellent ability to prioritize, multi-task and take initiative. Strong working knowledge of financial cycles, reporting requirements and QuickBooks. Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and other stakeholders. Advanced computer proficiency and excellent communication skills. Compassionate and responsible supporter of people, their families, and community partners. Advanced knowledge or strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and its application including; Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), Broader Public Sector Act, Non for profit accounting guidelines and Employment Standards Act (ESA). Valid G-Class driver's license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and have valid proof of automobile insurance with driving for business purposes and a minimum liability of two million dollars.
