Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in our monthly financial reporting process. This role involves leading month-end and year-end closing procedures, conducting ad-hoc financial analysis, reviewing payroll, and contributing to special projects assigned by the Controller.

Job Duties:

Accounting:

  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, verifying support for all entries.
  • Review trial balance for completeness and accuracy.
  • Update working paper files and review balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including variance analysis.
  • Assist in designing and preparing forecasts and budgets.
  • Review and approve weekly payroll for compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Review accounts payable invoice coding for accuracy.
  • Review corporate credit card process and account coding.
  • Collaborate with the Controller on managing Payroll and Invoicing Rulebooks.
  • Serve as QuickBooks super user with "Admin" access, addressing issues as they arise.
Financial Analysis & Reporting:
  • Prepare, analyze, and present a monthly reporting package, highlighting operating performance drivers.
  • Maintain and review the detailed Excel Financial Model on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare Quarterly Financial Compliance Certificates for banking requirements.
  • Create internal financial reports, forecasts, and analyses.
  • Review AR/AP aging schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • Accurately prepare weekly reports, including cash flow forecast and operating KPIs.
General:
  • Provide comprehensive support across the accounting process.
  • Lead financial audits, preparing working papers and supporting information.
  • Lead year-end inventory count and coordinate assistance from other departments.
  • Maintain care and control over assets and records.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain complete documentation for financial and accounting activities.
  • Mentor team members and anticipate challenges.
  • Serve as a backup to the Staff Accountant for weekly and monthly tasks.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.
Candidates Must Have:
  • CPA Designation is an Asset.
  • Minimum 5 years experience leading month-end.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, procedures, and software.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze, and present monthly reporting packages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a professional/mature demeanor under stress.
  • Experience working in a relevant industry, such as transportation, farming, agriculture, or manufacturing.
  • Intermediate knowledge of both Microsoft and Google applications
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • Office environment
  • Required to sit for long periods of time
  • Typical work hours are 40 hours per week
  • Overtime as required
  • Work statutory holiday as required
