to join our manufacturing business. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strategic decision-making. The Senior Accountant will lead a team, fostering a collaborative environment while maintaining compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and manufacturing cost controls.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax regulations.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Support
Oversee product costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
Monitor manufacturing overhead allocations and cost controls.
Provide financial analysis to support production efficiency and profitability.
Leadership & Team Development
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of three accounting staff.
Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for accuracy and timeliness.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and cross-training.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Maintain and improve internal control procedures.
Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
Ensure compliance with all government reporting and tax filing requirements.
Strategic & Operational Support
Assist management with budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
Provide insights to support business decisions, cost reductions, and margin improvements.
Participate in process improvement initiatives, leveraging technology where possible.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Post Secondary in Finance, or related field; CPA designation desirable.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and inventory management.
Proficiency in ERP (Accpac) systems and Microsoft Excel.
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing a small team.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
