Role Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records, monitoring effective financial controls, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and tax requirements. This role supports informed management decision-making through accurate financial reporting, process improvement, and operational collaboration across departments.



Role Objectives

The Senior Accountant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



Financial Reporting & Compliance:



Manage the completion of month-end and year-end close procedures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines. Ensure all statutory filings and tax returns are completed accurately and submitted on time. Maintain audit-quality working papers and documentation to support internal and external audit reviews

Financial Controls & Processes:



Monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity. Perform regular reviews of control effectiveness and recommend corrective or preventive measures where needed. Develop, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, workflows, and standard operating procedures. Ensure segregation of duties and approval hierarchies are followed throughout financial processes. Support automation initiatives to streamline reporting, reconciliation, and compliance tasks.

Collaboration & Business Support

Partner with department leads to ensure consistent financial practices and a clear understanding of cost drivers. Support the implementation of new financial systems, software, and tools to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy. Provide financial insights and analysis to management for decision-making and strategic planning. Assist with special projects, internal audits, and compliance reviews as required. Assist with requests from external auditors, regulatory bodies, or management. Occasional travel may be required between clinic or office locations.

Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment by supporting colleagues and promoting knowledge sharing. Contribute to a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. Participate in cross-functional initiatives to enhance organizational efficiency and performance.

Role Qualifications and Competencies

CPA designation (or in progress) preferred. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or healthcare environment. Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or IFRS) and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills. Demonstrated experience implementing or improving financial controls and reporting processes.
