Senior Account Manager, Commercial Banking (GHA)

Job Purpose & Summary

The Senior Account Manager, Commercial Banking (GHA) will be responsible for independently developing new business, managing a portfolio and client relationships associated with term, land and construction loans, contributing to DUCA's risk objectives and financial targets.

Responsible for a loan portfolio of up to $250MM, this role will act as a leader within the Construction Finance Team as it relates to west-end GTA real estate, with the purpose of establishing and growing DUCA's presence in the West-end GTA market through securing new strategic partnerships and Members. The role will support the development of a well-respected and identified in-market brand for DUCA aligned with our values and Member ownership.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

  • Develop and maintain a profitable commercial real estate portfolio of loans valued between $5MM-$30MM which include term real estate loans, development land loans, construction financing and syndications in loans led by DUCA, other credit unions or FIs
  • Source new deposit relationships and loan applications by soliciting existing and potential clients and other financial intermediaries
  • Review and underwrite commercial credit applications over $5MM, providing products and services which meet the clients' needs while adhering to DUCA's lending policies and practices
  • Actively monitor the loan portfolio to ensure accounts are operating as authorized and take measures necessary to remedy non-performing assets
  • Manage and oversee credit expiries within their assigned portfolio to ensure the process is being proactively managed and that DUCA remains within the credit expiry limits established by our credit policies
  • Represent DUCA at community, business networking, and trade association events
  • Establish new relationships with relevant stakeholders in the Western GHA area (Guelph, Kitchener/Waterloo, Hamilton and St. Catharine's/Niagara regions)
  • Maintain a strong understanding of DUCA's Credit Policy and keep abreast of changes and trends in the marketplace
Occupational Experience and Educational Requirements
  • Completion of university degree in Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience in relationship management and/or commercial or construction credit adjudication; GHA focus preferred
  • Sales management experience an asset
  • Proven track record in achieving annual loan volume targets
  • Exposure to syndicated and/or shared commercial financing
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Problem solving and issue resolution skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite with strong knowledge of Excel
  • Effective team player and ability to work well within a group setting
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Familiarity with mid-market commercial and real estate related financing
  • Strong business development, leadership, sales, and relationship management skills
  • High level of analytical, credit assessment, and underwriting skills
  • Balanced focus on profitability, portfolio growth, and asset quality
  • Strong interpersonal, partnership, and collaboration skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and meet tight or conflicting priorities
Working Conditions
  • Regular travel (25% - 50%) within Ontario required for site visits and to meet with COI's, Members and prospects.
  • Some after-hours requirements to attend networking and business development events.
