We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Security Services Supervisor in the Fire & Security Services Department at our Sunnybrook Campus.

Hours of Work:

Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday days; 8 hrs; with additional hours as required

Summary of Duties

  • Supervises Security Guards, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures
  • Ensures that emergency procedures are executed properly and enforces fire code regulations
  • Provides excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving customer complaints according to departmental policies and guidelines
  • Completes duty schedules in accordance with the collective agreement time sheets and delegates work assignments to each Security Guard on a daily basis.
  • Organizes shift briefings and communicates all new pertinent information to security Guards through policies and meetings, answers security Guards questions or concerns.
  • Makes recommendations in the hiring, training, evaluation and rewarding of staff. Applies disciplinary or corrective counseling to staff in consultation with and as directed by the Manager.
  • Complies with safety procedures including use of required safety equipment. Identifies and corrects unsafe practices or conditions as required.
  • Processes requests for locks, cores and keys.
  • Orders supplies and processes bills according to department guidelines and manager\xe2\x80\x99s direction
  • Participates in the recruitment , orientation and training of guards
  • Oversees and maintains security systems e.g. Card access, CCTV,etc. as directed, panic duress
  • Provides backup for Photo I.D. service
  • Ability to work at all Sunnybrook campuses and a variety of shifts
  • Provides support to the departmental manager
  • Participation in organizational committees as needed
Qualifications/Skills
  • Two year community college Law Enforcement diploma required
  • Completion of Non-violent Crisis Intervention Course required
  • Preferred training through the International
Association of Healthcare for Safety and Security (IAHSS) * First Aid & CPR training required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of fire-fighting and evacuation methods
  • Sound problem-solving abilities
  • Trained in tactful communications and handcuffing
  • Supervisor experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Supportive of change and departmental goals and objectives
  • Proven experience and leadership skills in a security setting
  • Significant recent related experience in a unionized security department, ideally in a healthcare setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem-solving, and working under pressure in a fast pace environment.
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work independently on various projects

*Please note, this position will be primarily stationed at St. John\xe2\x80\x99s Rehab location, with travel to other campus\xe2\x80\x99 as required.
