Reports to: Senior Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)

Responsibilities


Safety

Develop, maintain, and promote required safety and security policies and procedures. Correct any unsafe actions or hazardous conditions present within the work environment. Enforce the safe operation of all workplace machinery and equipment. Ensuring all equipment is used correctly and reinforcing adherence to safety protocols. Issue formal warnings, initiate investigations, and implement disciplinary actions where required. Take immediate action to halt any unsafe behaviours and/or practices. Implement efficient internal safety and security audit programs to meet legal, customer, and corporate requirements. Ensure compliance with all safety and security legislations including completion of all necessary inspections and reports by coordinating with the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC). Lead safety and security training sessions to educate employees of their rights and responsibilities. Take proactive measures and exercise on-going follow up on all inspections, training, and reports. Coordinate and manage all processes and legislated requirements related to the Ministry of Labour Manage WSIB Claims including the Return-to-Work Program (RTW), WSIB reporting, modified work, investigations, and monthly reporting. Maintain all necessary documentation such as hazard assessments and reports, training records, manuals etc. to ensure compliance to all legislated requirements. Conduct incident reporting process and ensure timely investigations, root cause analysis, and appropriate follow up. Coordinate with department managers to assist with development of specific policies, procedures, job standards and programs that promote safe and secure work practices. Work with the Project Managers and area owners to administer the contractor management policy and program. Compliance with all rules & policies regarding health safety, occupational safety, environmental safety, food safety, legal regulations, company requirements, etc. Compliance with the Company's Integrated Management Systems which includes, but is not limited to Production, Quality, Food Safety & GMP. Other duties as assigned.

Security

Utilize CCTV systems and other monitoring tools to oversee the premises and identify any security breaches or suspicious activities. Conduct regular patrols and inspections to maintain visibility and deter unauthorized access. Assess potential security risks specific to food manufacturing environments. Develop and implement security protocols and procedures to mitigate identified risks effectively. Manage access control systems to ensure only authorized personnel enter through designated entrance. Issue and revoke access credentials as per company policies and regulatory requirements. Investigate security incidents, breaches, or policy violations promptly and thoroughly. Communicate and manage activities related to third party security agencies for the company. Educate employees on security best practices and procedures to foster a culture of security awareness. Conduct routine inspections of existing fire alarm systems, and other fire safety equipment to ensure proper functionality and full compliance. Monitor fire detection systems for alarms or malfunctions, addressing any issues and coordinating with teams to ensure corrective action is taken, if necessary. Oversee the administration of parking permits, ensuring efficient processing and distribution. Issue parking warnings and enforce regulations through ticketing, as necessary through our formal process.


Profile

University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Security and Safety Management, or related field is required. Minimum 4-5 years of experience in health & safety, security management, or related positions is required. Knowledge of security protocols, emergency response planning, and risk assessment methodologies. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders. Certified or eligible to be certified for security management designation (e.g., CPP, PSP) is an asset. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Prior experience in manufacturing industry is required. Experience in Claims Management and WSIB Program is required. Strong communicator and proven ability to be a mentor and trainer for large group of employees. Strong hazard recognition skills and analytical skills.
