Position:Security Guard - Portal and Utility Gates

Site: Imperial Oil

City:Sarnia, ON

Status:Part-Time

Hours:Shift Rotation (12 hours) including days, nights, and weekends

Pay Rate:$16.37/hour during site training. $17.58-$19.55/hour upon completion of training. Rates based on a levelling system

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Paladin Security Shift Supervisorserving IOL, this position has the primary responsibility to perform all duties related to the Site Access Control System to control access to the Imperial Oil Sarnia Site for the purpose of security.

This position involves familiarity of the Imperial Oil Sarnia site and its practices, as well as an extensive general computer knowledge to perform all required tasks.

Essential Job Functions: This position will be cross-trained at various posts within the site. Duties/Job functions may differ depending on the particular post.

  • Conduct vehicle checks and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate gate logs and reports.
  • Control access/egress including verifying badges, card swipes, and vehicle passes.
  • Secure gates and fence lines during shift and report suspicious activity.
  • Operate Paladin vehicle and perform site patrols.
  • Maintain professional communication with security staff, site employees and visitors.
  • Provide high level of customer service while working reception.
  • Issue visitor\'s badges and ensure all visitors are aware of and follow site safety procedures.
  • Operate Welcome Board (Utilizing PowerPoint and other programs).
  • Assist in updating information in electronic system.
  • Respond to internal alarms.
  • Maintain office equipment.
  • Assist with training of new security backups.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Site Access Control System management includes administration and operation to ensure that:
  • All system devices (doors, readers, gates, cameras ) are working and maintained to operate as required.
  • All cardholders have necessary
  • Access is provided in accordance with site policies (authorized custodians, card holders possess the necessary prerequisites).

  • Monitor site CCTV throughout the shift and perform CCTV tours
  • Accessing the IEC database to check expiry dates for workers coming on

Requirements:
  • At least two years of security experience in an industrial setting would be an
  • Post-Secondary education in a law enforcement/security program from a recognized college an
  • A Valid Drivers class G license with clean
  • System Administrators need to have extensive general computer knowledge to perform all required tasks. Must possess a detailed knowledge of the MS Office, with the ability to extract and manipulate data using MS Access/Excel. A working knowledge of relational database composition, operation and query functions an asset.
  • This position requires excellent communication skills written and verbal with the emphasis on practical industrial knowledge. The job requires tact, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • This position is stationed out of an office, but physical demands are required for traffic
  • Working knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act and Mental Health
  • Utilize two-way radio and computer applications for communicating site
  • Sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and provide specialized security services by enforcing rules and regulations when required.
  • Offer support to any person in need such as providing good customer service when providing a security presence, such as providing direction, responding to emergency situation involving violent individuals and injuries.

Security Guards at Imperial Oil may be required to complete a Drug & Alcohol test for incidents that occur on Imperial Oil property.

3. Proficient in English (both oral and written)

1. First Aid & CPR - Level C
2. Management of Aggressive Behavior
3. Use of Force
4. Report Writing
5. Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) through the Industrial Educational Cooperative (IEC)
6. Additional courses as assigned
