  • Understanding and enforcing designated Base Standing Orders, DAODs, CFAOs, and designated statutes/regulations including DCAARs, ISDRs, and GPTRs.
  • Guards are required to be familiar with and trained in Bomb Threat procedures and use of the Bomb Threat guide provided by client.
  • Provide general guidance for contractors, military members, and visitors upon request or inquiries.
  • Control of access for various levels of security in controlled access areas by maintaining logs and issuing associated/required passes and keys along with approved identification checks.
  • Using recording system Tracktik to create incident reports to ensure incidents are reported in a timely and professional manner to inform client and provide support.
  • Control issuing and returning of keys for authorized personnel following the Key Access lists supplied by the client, additionally, guards are to provide keys to emergency services (Military Police, DND Firefighters, and RP Ops personnel).
  • Fill out reports in a timely manner to capture incidents/occurrences that require Military Police or client (Base Operations) awareness or presence to investigate.
  • Liaise with Military Police and provide assistance when investigations are being conducted.
  • Operate in inclement weather (extreme heat, cold, and heavy rainfall) while maintaining security posture.
  • Participate in and provide support to base exercises (ie. NER, FASF, BC Shakeout).
  • Provide direction during emergency events.
  • Report on issues with wildlife on base.
  • Put out small fires and/or bush fires using fire extinguishers and raise the alarm.
  • As required, advise personnel of the Base smoking policies and areas
  • As required, advise personnel of the prohibition of taking photographs or video on DND property within permission
  • Be capable of using technology: SONIM smartphones, PC, Tracktik system, radios, and mechanical security apparatus.
  • Monitor CCTV and/or alarm systems as required
  • Keep diligent notes and create reports as required.
  • Report trespassing attempts immediately.
  • Provide guidance and directions and enforce parking.
  • Deal with accidents/incidents in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • May be required to miss scheduled breaks and mealtimes in order to maintain security posture.
  • Must wear security uniform provided by Commissionaires CVIY.
  • Required to wear proper PPE including high-visibility safety vests.
  • Control of access/checkpoints on Department of National Defence property.
  • Open internal kiosks on base as required and close them once business for the day has concluded. If required, lock and ensure turnstiles are set to allow customers to leave but not regain access after hours.
  • Communicate with customers on the base and ensure security is maintained based on the clearance and required credentials to entre controlled areas of access.
  • Ensure workspaces are clean and organized, items are in good working order including guard kiosks, front desk access control, and break rooms.
  • Have DWAN account access in order to provide support to the client for ease of communication.
  • Understanding of radio procedures and effective communication to help meet shift rotations, emergencies, and provide support as required.
  • Conduct mandatory check-ins during the evening shifts to ensure guard safety.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully to customers accessing the Department of National Defence property, while ensuring proper identification is validated by guards.
  • Control access of pets, allowing service animals and Emotional support animals onto the base with Base Commander\xe2\x80\x99s approval. Guards are to understand that RHU (residents of the base) are exempt from this order.
  • Operate security arm barriers in a safe manner and comply with procedures in the event of an accident involving vehicles/persons with arm barriers.
  • Notify proper channels and chain of command if media is present.
  • Guards are expected to understand various vehicle passes and decals to ensure proper issuance of passes after confirmation of VCR.
  • Maintain, review, and ensure understanding of guard role in Post Orders and manuals.
  • Liaise with Base Security Officer to gather information related to base security.
  • Manage found property until properly disposed of
  • Setting up barriers and setting notices for no parking areas
Qualifications and Experience
  • Posses a Government of Canada secret (level II) security clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to remain alert while on duty.
  • Ability to work in a range of weather conditions throughout shift.
  • Maintain OFA1
  • Must complete the online Commissionaire Security Officer Course
  • Be comfortable using computers.
  • Fluent in the English language - written, verbal and reading skills.
  • Have a positive attitude with a professional demeanour.
  • Have excellent attention to complete incident report writing.
  • Have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in varying situations.
