Using leading-edge technology, youll help connect British Columbians to healthy and safe workplaces - providing support for injury prevention programs, rehabilitation services, workplace insurance, and strong health and safety cultures.In this role, youll leverage your understanding and experience of application security engineering practices and vulnerabilities to provide guidance on application security design and development. Youll work closely with cross-functional DevOps teams to understand business goals, determine security requirements, design, and implement application and data security solutions. Youll be a key contributor to support the teams delivery and continuous improvement by assisting others with their work and being the champion of IT application security through your contribution to our security community of practice.How youll make a difference: As a Security Engineer I at WorkSafeBC, youll be using leading-edge technology to help connect British Columbians to healthy and safe workplaces.Where youll workWorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position. In this role, youll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally (at least twice a month) in our Richmond office.What you\'ll doAs an Application security engineer I you will:

• Develop and maintain application secure coding standards, cloud security configurations and practices according to the industry best practices
• Perform design, development, integration and sustainment of security assessment/review tools to review software products/applications built by DevOps teams
• Review the product/application designs by performing threat modelling for the identification and mitigation of security threats
• Perform validation and tuning of security testing tools e.g. BurpSuite, SonarQube, Mend to provide accurate and actionable results
• Work closely with senior security engineers to conduct security reviews of cloud technologies, software code, products and application code
• Conduct penetration testing on the web applications to identify vulnerabilities.

• Provide guidance to application developers on secure coding practices and secure configurations of cloud technologies.
• Understand security tools and platforms to identify vulnerabilities in cloud platforms, software products, and custom code
• Think critically through complex problems and make decisions that may impact multiple levels of business, projects, or programs
• This position requires regular and punctual attendance.

Your experience and educational background:

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math)
• A minimum of 4 years of work experience focused on information security and secure application development.

The following requirements are preferable but not mandatory:

• Experience working in an Agile/DevOps environment
