Who are we looking for?

The Exploration Place is seeking an

enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and energetic people-person to support our team during the busy holiday season.

As the first point of contact between our organization and visitors, this role combines front desk admissions and gift shop duties. The Visitor Services & Retail Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, contributing to a positive, professional, and welcoming environment for all visitors, and ensuring all visitors are equipped with the necessary information to maximize their experience.

What are the hours?

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) temporary position with a Monday-Friday work week. A regular workday is 8 hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.Regular shift is 8:45am to 5:15pm. Statutory holidays (with days off in lieu), occasional extended hours, and evenings for events may also be required. After December, there is the potential for ongoing casual, on-call work.

The Visitor Services & Retail Assistant is an opportunity to help contribute to our growing organization and support The Exploration Place's day-to-day operations. As you operate our front desk, retail, and admissions, you will interact with great people at work and in the community. Must present a friendly demeanour while interacting with visitors of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Must present friendly and consistent customer service, while being willing to provide solutions to whatever comes your way.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:

Greet all visitors as they come through our doors and provide information about exhibits, programs, admissions, and memberships Process admissions, retail sales, and memberships using a Point-of-Sale system Check current members into the museum Maintain accurate cash handling and daily balancing procedures Maintain cleanliness of the gift shop area Promote memberships and upcoming events and support group bookings as needed Assist with special events as needed Represent the museum with the utmost integrity, exemplifying the core values and mission of our organization Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Willing to submit to a criminal record check Accurately and swiftly handle sales transactions, or have the willingness to learn Friendly, professional, responsible, and adaptable Efficient and consistently organized Friendly, outgoing personality; excited to meet, engage, and assist visitors of diverse backgrounds, including children Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact in a kind, tactful, and professional manner with both visitors and staff Ability to work closely and communicate respectfully with The Exploration Place team at large Proficient in Office 365 Effective conflict management and decision-making Strong ability to multitask and manage time effectively Must be comfortable with communication and collaboration tools such as Slack Must show flexibility when asked to perform other tasks as needed Must be dependable and committed to carrying out your responsibilities to the best of your ability

The following will be considered an asset for this position:

Experience in retail customer service, retail, and/or hospitality, providing high-quality customer service Cash handling experience
