Work hours:

Hours of work vary by the season and occasional overtime may be required. Typical hours of work are Monday to Friday 2 pm - 10 pm, up to 40 hours per week, or as established by the Supervisor of Roads Operations. A period of day shifts, after-hours and weekend emergency call-outs may be required. Depending on the weather Saturday and Sunday work on day shift may be required to assist Full Time staff.

General Purpose:



Reporting to the Supervisor of Roads Operations, the Seasonal Roads Operator will perform functions in accordance with established standard operating procedures, departmental and corporate policies, sound construction principles and practices, and applicable codes, with a focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement processes.

Responsibilities:



Operate a variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment as directed by the Supervisor of Roads Operations, including single or tandem axle dump trucks with combined plow/wing units and computerized material spreading units for winter salting and sanding. Install and remove snowplow equipment including plow blades, harness and spreader and perform repairs to blades, pins and cables. Conduct winter maintenance activities including. snowplowing, sanding, and salting on Township roads and parking lots, and respond to emergency call-outs outside normal hours as needed. Performs road maintenance work when there is no snow, including but not limited to pothole patching, roadside debris clean up, washing vehicles, and clean-up of shops. Perform regular inspections of roadways and road allowances within the Township; identifies areas that needing maintenance, and report to the Supervisor of Roads Operations. Ensures vehicles are inspected before each use as required by Ministry of Transportation regulations. maintains a daily log of such inspections, record deficiencies, and notify the Supervisor of Roads Operations. Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment including but not limited to oil changes, grease jobs and interior/exterior washing. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Operations - Roads.

Qualifications:



Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a related environment. Ability to operate computers and various personal digital assistant devices, utilizing existing and future software programs such as a mobile patrol management system. Training and experience with Traffic Control Book 7, propane handling, and chainsaw operating. Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well within a team environment Valid "DZ" driver's license and a good driving record. Clean Criminal Record Check is required upon hire.
