The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the temporary position of Foreperson within the Department of Engineering, Development and Operational Services (EDOS). This position reports directly to the Superintendent of Public Works and will participate in the planning, organizing, and directing of the daily operation of personnel and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the general operational needs associated with snow clearing and ice removal for the City of Corner Brook.
The successful candidate must possess a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the construction industry or possess a Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate supplemented with at least five (5) years of progressive operating experience, preferably in a municipal environment. The Foreperson will be required to have extensive knowledge in all aspects of safe and proper operation of heavy equipment and general maintenance and repair procedures. Work experience in the areas of water and sewer installation, road maintenance and repair, and other related areas of public service would be considered assets.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent time-management skills, and a demonstrated ability to plan job-related tasks. Knowledge of OH&S rules and regulations is also required and relevant training in this area is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered. The successful candidate must have the ability to work regular shift work, including a rotation of 12-hour day and night shifts on both weekdays and weekends. A valid Class 5 Newfoundland & Labrador driver's license is a requirement of this position.
